Hey, remember when Billy Corgan took out a big ad in the Chicago newspapers saying he wanted his band back? And remember when he started posting on his blog about Smashing Pumpkins were back together making a new album? Well, it turns out that they aren’t back together so much as ol’ Billy boy is basically just making another solo album and calling it Smashing Pumpkins…presumably because no one will buy it if it’s under just his name.
Yes, Launch is reporting that the new Smashing Pumpkins will not include original members James Iha on guitar and D'Arcy Wretzky on bass.
Pumpkins manager Paul Geary hinted at a different formation in comments he made to MTV.com, saying, "Billy's making a great record, and for the sake of a younger generation that he wants to turn on to the band's music, he is doing it with a band that will more faithfully re-create the old songs than ever before."
The Pumpkins will play their first live dates since 2000 in early June at two German festivals.
