Oh. Shoot. Electronic Arts RPG based on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings has been put on hold until at least after 2008, and maybe forever.

LOTR: The White Council was to be an open-world, presumably single-player adventure featuring hobbits.

EA CFO Warren Jenson confirmed that The White Council is not canceled--but that work on it has been indefinitely suspended. "The Lord of the Rings product is back in development in terms of being on hold."

If you can make sense of that statement, congratulations.

Note: Lord of the Rings Online: Shadow of Angmar, an upcoming MMMO from Midway, has not been canceled.

GameSpot: Lord of the Rings RPG "on hold"
