Publisher: Vista Breaks Most Games

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, January 31, 2007 9:07 AM

Microsoft's brand new Vista operating system may be very pretty, but according to game publisher, the OS will break about 90% of Windows games.

The problem lies mainly with Vista's enhanced security.

"It's almost certain that Vista's digital rights technology will break existing casual games," said Alex St. John, teh president of casual game company Wild Tangent. For example saving game progress won't be able with Vista, he said.

Another problem: A parental filter unique to Vista that blocks games based on ESRB ratings. Most casual games you might download aren't rated, so are stopped automatically.

Just what I was going to say. It's not rated so it's blocked? There'd better be a way to turn that off.

Haha...next thing you know you'll see the red ring of death on your computer screen. Keep up the good work MS. No seriously, Bill, you're one of my inspirations, but this half-assing your product crap has to stop. You're like 80% of guys I've competed with on the basketball court - look good first, be good second. You're the kid with the new Jordans and the matching outfit.

WT is just pissed because its harder for them to move their spyware. But yeah blocking unrated games is some BS.

Kinda thought this thing would boil down to a company just freaking out over nothing.

The title of this post should read...
Publisher: Vista Breaks Most WildTangent Games

This doesn't have anything to do with the games we actually play.

God, I'm so sick of hearing that Vista is going to end the world as we know it. It's a f*cking OS, it will not kill your unborn children.

I can believe it. The move from Windows 3.x to 95 killed about 90% of games then, so why not?

But yeah, the slimebag running WildTangent is a horrible person to go to for comment.
