After countless delays, Twin Peaks fans can finally rejoice… sort of. Word is out on the street that Twin Peaks: The Second Season will be available on DVD on April 10 of 2007. The DVD set is being released by CBS Paramount Television, the most recent possessor of Twin’s rights in what has seemed to be a game of "Copyright Hot-Potato". The box set will debut on American shelves nearly 16 years after the last Twin Peaks episode aired on ABC.
While news of this release will certainly excite Lynch fans the world over, American fans are still in limbo over whether a proper release of the drama’s mind-boggling pilot episode will ever be realized.
While we still might be pilot-less (except for the sad transfer on the European version), the release of the second season just goes to prove that with DVD, no television is lost forever. Just like the Double R Diner is with pies, DVD is truly where great television goes when it dies.
