Sony Discusses Downloadable PSP Flicks

Posted December 18, 2006 - By Stephen Johnson

There's a good reason to rush out and get a PSP for Christmas, and it's not those charming, Sony-sponsored YouTube rap videos: Sony is deep in talks with Amazon and other movie providers to bring their films to PSP users.

Movies will be downloaded to a PC, transferred onto a memory stick and enjoyed by PSP users as they ride their BMX Skateboards and get totally radical all up in some punk's grill.

If all goes well, the service will be available in early 2007.

This is, of course, horrible news for the UMD format. Maybe it's too early to throw the funeral, but it's not too early for UMD to get its affairs in order.
