According to The Detroit Free Press, Tigers pitcher Joel Zumaya was sidelined last year due to wrist injuries. Par-for-the-course for a major league pitcher, but the culprit wasn't spitballs. Zumaya was sidelined for three games of the American League Championship Series because he liked rockin' out to Guitar Hero.
Club president and general manager Dave Dombrowski told a radio host recently that Zumaya's forearm pain was more consistent with the action of a guitar player than a baseball pitcher.
He stopped playing the game, and his health returned to normal. Zumaya pitched during the World Series, and went 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three appearances.
Yeah, but I bet he started sucking at Guitar Hero.
