Apparently more people like Mel Gibson's films than they do the man himself. The racist filmmaker's Apocalypto opened with a $14.2 million weekend, which is pretty significant for this time of year. Detailing the end of the Mayan civilization, Apocalypto has been criticized for being really brutal and violent, which should come as no surprise to anyone who's seen any of Mel's other films.
In other news, Tenacious D in The Pick Of Destiny continues to be a huge flop, making a total cume of about $8 million, though it had a production budget of $20 million. That's sad to me.
