In an interview on a private CNN-IBN channel Thursday, George Clooney professed his like of Bollywood films and said that he’d enjoy having a starring role in one of the colorful song and dance pictures native to India.
Clooney said, "I'd love to. There are some filmmakers whose films when you see (them) you say, `That could be an interesting story to tell'" and "There is a small market in the (United) States as of now, but it will be fun if it catches on because it is such a positive way of looking at filmmaking and I really love that. I truly think it's fun.”
As fun as a Bollywood comes to Hollywood film could be, a lot of Americans, the one’s who even know what Bollywood is, aren’t necessarily fans of the ancillary-genre and find it kind of grating after a while (perhaps it’s a language barrier thing).
Strange, considering American cinema has had its share of musical movie hits like Marry Poppins, Grease and South Park the Motion Picture. Even recent films like Tenacious D: The Pick of Destiny have proven that Yanks still have an interest in musical films (but not musical theater, we’re a TV watching bunch).
So, who knows? Maybe Clooney’s addition to Bollywood will be the next Grease… which I thought sucked. Please, no angry comments. I’ve been getting violent threats from Grease fans all of my life.
