Will NBC Launch "Friday Night Live?"

Posted December 1, 2006 - By Eugene Morton

Friday Night Live may be coming to NBC. That is, a digital broadcast of the SNL Friday night rehearsal might be coming to NBC’s website.

According to George Kliavkoff, the Chief Digital Officer of NBC Universal, the broadcaster has seen the future and its digital. Wednesday, at the Digital Entertainment Media & Marketing Excellence Conference in Los Angeles, Kliavkoff announced that the company is exploring a few different avenues to exploit the increased demand for original online video content and stated that the Saturday Night Live Friday run through is definitely one of the top contenders.

He jested that watching the rehearsal through closed-circuit television "Sometimes it's a lot more interesting than the show." That’s not exactly a ringing endorsement for the long running sketch comedy show, but perhaps it’ll get butts that weren’t necessarily sitting on the couch to watch SNL into office chairs to watch the online offering.
