Wii Sensor Bar Replaced By...Candles?

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Monday, November 27, 2006 1:48 PM

TheFeed loves two things: Videogames and aromatherapy. That's why we were psyched that plucky hackers were able to combine our two loves in such a pleasing manner. I'm talking about the Wii-candle-hack.

It works like this: Since it only takes two points of light to orient the Wii-controllers, you can easily replace the sensor bar on the Wii with a couple candles. We suggest a couple of nice pine-scented candles for a homey, festive vibe for Red Steel.

Anyway, check it out:

this kinda makes sense, but once again guy who cracked his 60 inch plasma, dont set candles near your parents giant screen tv, burn marks = hte bad

So you could use two little pin lights or whatever? Hmmm, I'll have to think of a way for this to be a good thing. Or, maybe Nintendo already figured it out.

this is so confusing to me

Nintendo probably knew this and was going to use candles instead of the sensor bar but figured that dumb kids burning their houses down was bad. The candles' scent would have been "new game."

Well then, I guess direct sunlight WOULD really mess up your controller...

I can just see it. Invite the girlfriend over. Put on some soft music, light some scented candles and pull out my Wii.

I just laughed at that, but kind of confusing.

So... I have no idea how this works.... I didn't know how Duck-hunt worked. Can anyone explain it to an idiot like me?

The Wiimote orients itself by detecting two infared light sources. Thats all the sensor bar is. Candles work, but it has to be dark in the room.
