Listen, I am aware of how annoying college students can be. They live in a self-righteous bubble from which they see the world in absolutes. Still, just because they're idealists doesn't mean they aren't occasionally right. Let's take this for example. This kid was 'escorted' from the library at UCLA for failing to show an ID. When the UCPD put their hands on him, and began to use force, he yelled for them to get off of him.
What happened next was several minutes of the kid being tasered and then being commanded to stand up. When he failed to do that, he was tasered again...and again. Now, I've never been tasered, but I can only imagine that your legs don't work too well after repeated stunnings.
A crowd of students gathered to watch what was happening, and some of them were threatened with tasering as well. Now, I'm not sure you can use violence against someone for not having ID, but I'm pretty sure you can't for asking a policeman for their badge number.
Power hungry? Perhaps. Scared? More than likely. These cops were being watched by what turned out to be something like 50 kids, and they wanted to make damn sure they were in control of the situation, so they used the only weapon at their disposal, the taser gun, to keep the peace.
It is my fervent hope that you watch this video and are outraged. There are plenty of comparisons between our current society and facist states of yore. I can't think of a better one than a kid being beaten and stunned by cops for not carrying ID in a college library.
You want to support these bozos, go ahead. Bring it on. I'm here to tell you, pre-emptively, that there was NOTHING about this situation that motivated a use of force, and even more nothing that could have warranted these people threatening other students for asking why it was happening.
I hope they lose their jobs, to start with.
You can watch the video yourself, here...
