FBI Wants Your IP Address

Posted October 19, 2006 - By Mike D'Alonzo

The terrorists have already won. By making it possible for our own governement to strip our freedoms from us one at a time in the name of keeping us safe, the terrorists have already accomplished much more than they could have originally anticipated. We're already getting rid of the rule of habeus corpus, and now, here's another violation of your freedom and privacy!

The FBI wans to secure your IP address when you're online so that they can see exactly where you surf and what you say, who you browse, and who you talk to, all in the name of keeping you "safe" from terrorists and predators.

I'll take my chance with the terrorists. I mean, yes, there is a slight chance that something bad might happen to me as a result. Statistically, however, I would bet that over time the chances are roughly the same for any American to die at the hands of a terrorist attack as they are for being eaten by a shark.

Yes, airport security is absolutely necessary. Checking you out when you enter a stadium or a national monument makes sense. Other than that, stay out of my house, my bedroom, my computer, and my mind.

Living in the United States guarantees you the right to your predilcetions and perversions, regardless of who else might find them distasteful. This is the subtle militarization of your country, and I promise you that the motive has very little to do with keeping you "safe". You're safe right now. No matter how many phantom warnings come your way. Think a little. Don't be a sheep.
