For most of us, reading a book has become such a hassle with trying to find time to read or being able to carry a book with all of the other gear and gadgets we pack in our bags. That may be a thing of the past as we are given our first look at the eBook phenomenon that will be hitting the world.
Saving the trees and making it easier for your personal enjoyment, Staretek has released their version of the eBook to....the Far East.
That's right, China will be receiving the STAReBOOK this coming November with a hefty price tag of $440 for a country where the average earned wages per YEAR is $6300 bucks! No, you did not read that incorrectly...
The STAReBOOK specifics include a 6-inch SVGA 800x600 four-color grayscale e-ink display, a 250MHz Samsung processor, 64MB SDRAM, USB 2.0, mono speaker (audio books, perhaps?) and runs on a Linux 2.4.1
Not sure that it is the wisest of launch locations, but the intentions are good as the e-reader will allow education to flourish in regions where there are no computers or internet. By the time it hits the U.S., expect it to face some competition from Sony when their eBook the PRS-500 will be making its debut as well.
