Rumors of G4’s Death…Totally Bogus

Posted by Robt. Juster - Monday, October 16, 2006 6:09 PM

If you’re a follower of G4TV, basic cable television in general, or digg.com, you’re sure to be reading a lot of internet speculation regarding the “death” of G4.

Let us put your fears/hopes to rest: G4 isn’t going anywhere.

We are owned by Comcast cable, which also owns E! and the Style channel, Golf Channel, Versus (formerly OLN), AZN and Sprout. Comcast has decided to fold G4’s operations into E! to combine departments where possible so that more money can be spent on programming and other cool stuff.

That doesn’t mean we’re becoming E! or that we’re being taken-over or that we’re being taken off the air, or anything, really. All it means is that our boss’s boss’s boss got a new boss.

In short: Your G4TV experience will remain the same… actually, we think it will only get better because of this…

Now let us get back to making immature jokes about people who can’t defend themselves, ok?

We believe you g4. And always remember, if u leave me, I will find everyone that worked at G4, kidnapp you, and lock you in my basement. Heheheehheehehee

I've got a seperate basement of horror for the E! execs. if they start advertising garbage and other non gaming junk of G4. Beware of the Snail Dungeon.

Posted by spocksdragon - Monday, October 16, 2006 12:12 PM

Too bad. G-4 needs to die. It started its ruin by taking over Tech TV and getting rid of its (Tech TV) best, and now is ruining Star Trek by moving it to saturday only. I could live with the 2.0 garbage as it can be fun to chat during the show, but replaceing it with jacka** kennedy excrement is just plain stupid.

Posted by HarMegiddo - Monday, October 16, 2006 12:15 PM

i hope g4 goes kerplunk. the way that they have lied to their star trek 2.0 fans is ignorant. they constantly tell us to keep playin for more surprises. the only surprise was that the game was put from daily{shown once a day}, to just being shown once a week. who ever is in charge of this show needs to be fired, just for being a lying creep.

GET BATTLEBOTS!

Posted by DSGB4life - Monday, October 16, 2006 12:29 PM

G4 died when they got rid of their highest rated show which all came from TechTV.

Posted by givafuk - Monday, October 16, 2006 12:34 PM

Im glad to hear that you guys will be picking up some extra resources. Maybe this will increase some more original programming. Bring back some of the TechTV shows and dump stuff like "Fastlane" and "The Man Show".

Anyways keep doing what yer doing and I'll keep on watching.

Posted by superbeefy2050 - Monday, October 16, 2006 12:36 PM

Funny thing is, I havent seen G4 in over 3 months. Damn college with cable instead of satellite...

Posted by hetman - Monday, October 16, 2006 12:39 PM

I like the old programms better also. I barely every watch g4 anymore. I will catch aots or xplay every once in awhile if i get home on time.I like star trek 2.0 and it does suck that it only come on saturday. The rest of the stuff is pretty lame. It also seems like g4 gets every left over piece of shit show that all the other channels dont want. G4 is becomming a frankenstiens monster of cancelled programs from other networks.

Posted by Xbox(360)xboX - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:11 PM

LOL,whatever I havent watched G4 since Dec.2005.

Posted by Xbox(360)xboX - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:12 PM

But on a high note I enjoy the website.:D

Posted by Capt_Faust - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:22 PM

Well, if E is going to head up all of G4, that would explain a lot of the new programming choices…like a Tech channel having a soon to be reality TV show about a professional snowboarder who likes to think that he is a “gansta”. Yes, that’s right, there is lots of technology involved when you mention MFM…big rims, an escalade, bling…You better believe that G4 is totally committed to pimp my ride…uh…I mean the gaming culture!

Posted by GrandGeekKris - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:24 PM

Although this website rules and X-PLAY is the only reason for watching I must say that G4 really needs to stop trying to act and/or compete with Spike TV.

Posted by salvatore77 - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:26 PM

didnt G4 used to be called ZDtv or something

Posted by anutjob - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:31 PM

Good, no hostile takeover, I feel better.

Posted by Capt_Faust - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:31 PM

no...it used to be called good...Not Spike TV jr. complete with lost episodes of “The Man Show”

Posted by johnhighway - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:31 PM

ZDTV was first and was later to become TechTV ... TechTV was sold to G4 to become G4TechTV with plans to phase out TechTV and return back to G4.

Posted by MaceMan2021 - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:33 PM

man snoop_dizzle is right, G4 has done nothing that new or creative, The only shows I really spend my time to watch are AOTS and Xplay or maybe even Cheat if I have to, but it's nothing new Why don't they bring back the shows everyone loves to watch(Arena, Judgement Day) or some original Programing, some New original Programming.G4 has the potential to be a great Netwrk but it's just the lack of originality.

Posted by Capt_Faust - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:33 PM

I’m sorry that’s a bit harsh…I’ll retract my earlier comment, and simply state that G4 was called “The destroyer of Tech. TV”…that and the “Soon to be E jr.”

Posted by MaceMan2021 - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:41 PM

And yeah G4 used to be ZDTV-TechTV (which was awesome)-G4/TechTV(Still Awesome)-G4 (meh. So yeah, that's the birth of G4.

Posted by robertfuqua - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:48 PM

Ahh, E!, how you made your mark on me. Talk Soup with John Henson (or Greg Kinnear, or Hal Sparks, or Aisha Tyler, it's all good), re-runs of Melrose Place 24/7, Coming Attractions, a show completely comprised of movie trailers and that guy who hosted Whammy! on the Game Show Network, and Wild On with Brooke Burke. The network was solely responsible for hours wasted in the bathroom. (Thanks, skunkboy.) What fond memories I have. Of course, that was 11 years ago. The network now, in the passing glance I give it, seems like a tabloid magazine on steroids. Please (and this is going to sound wierd, especially posted here on a page that seems to constantly be viewed by people who it appear haven't liked the network in forever), leave your stinch off of G4.

Posted by Capt_Faust - Monday, October 16, 2006 1:50 PM

The New name for G4 will be “VE”…Vapid entertainment, mind numbing shows about the asinine for those who don’t want to think…NO Tech. shows, NO shows about Video Games, NO shows dealing with the gaming community or the gaming culture. But you will be excited to know that Vapid Entertainment will show nothing but shows with sex therapists, models, and LA “lifestyles” including shows like The Real World…uh…I mean Gamers IN LA…that’s right, during G4’s metamorphous into VE, we will show all kinds of crap, this side of MTV1, 2, and 3…

Posted by CommanderBow - Monday, October 16, 2006 2:03 PM

WTF Why is Jamie Kennedy on G4? G4 should get rid of all these stupid shows including Star Trek and The Man Show. Show more X-play or AOTS.

Posted by yuergo - Monday, October 16, 2006 2:10 PM

G4 is good except they show the stupid star trek episodes the whole day. They should take star trek comletly away from their lineup.

Posted by Nirvana420 - Monday, October 16, 2006 2:21 PM

I agree with yuergo. I never understood why Star Trek got into 24/7 rotation on G4 anyway. We are on the brink of exciting new technology in gaming and instead of giving us previews of next-gen games, we get crappy captain kirk all day long. I don't know about you guys, but I work all day long, and every time I get home it's nothing but a buttload of Star Trek on G4. I miss the days when AOTS was innovative and when Sessler wasn't the annoying mental leech he has become. Maybe if you guys ditch the trekkies you might have a chance. Hell, you would have a better chance airing 8 bit games live all day long. Where's Mr. T to pity these fools?

Posted by Skunkhair - Monday, October 16, 2006 2:27 PM

Ughh! i'm tired of hearing people whine about how techtv was better and g4 ruined it and blah blah blah blah blah! So, during the transition some shows moved on out. I think the main part of the whining comes from those who felt l337 because they were watching shows that no one else was watching and they hate the fact that the network they used to watch has now become a bit more mainstream. This is the part where their social tendencies kick in and can only complain about their shows being ruined when in fact is that they just can't cope with the network moving on to bigger things. Don't worry guys, your leo laporte and kevin rose are still surviving strong on their pod/netcasts and what with the relaunch of revision3 you can get your shows and feel a part of something again, feel "underground" or leet, or whatever. Can't blame a network for trying to target a bigger audience outside of the "kids who sit in front of a computer all day" demographic.

Posted by robertfuqua - Monday, October 16, 2006 2:37 PM

You're right, Skunkhair, though you will most certainly get flamed or pwned for saying around here. I don't understand it, but it seems the boards, and especially the chat room of this network, are still frequented by people who were around during the TechTV days. Maybe they stick around because they all know they can get in contact with each other here, but honestly, I am right there with you Skunkhair. Tech-savvy people, in all of their early-adoptiveness and their 'it's in one minute, it's obsolete the next' way of life, I would expect to be the most adaptive to change. But this website constantly disproves that notion.

Posted by robertfuqua - Monday, October 16, 2006 2:58 PM

Oh, don't get me wrong! I am all about a network improving itself. But do we need another E! ? Unless it's a mid-90's E!, and Jules Asner and Steve Kmetko start interviewing video game creators and whatnot. I was just backing up Skunkhair on the idea that there is SOOOOO much complaining of days gone by.

Posted by Capt_Faust - Monday, October 16, 2006 3:03 PM

The end is neigh! G4 will continue to slip to more towards “entertainment” and all we will get is gossip shows and ridiculously MTV-like programming. Don’t believe me, then take a look at AOTS and all you’ll start to see are “sex therapists” and how the staff can be drunk in Tokyo, or Drunk in Vegas, or Drunk on Friday. Well whoopee - Freaking DO! I agree that G4 has tremendous opportunity to re-establish itself over its rivals, and that could be accomplished by developing witty shows with a tech edge, but enough is enough…Reruns of Arrested Development, and the Man Show? You don’t crush the competition by becoming exactly like the competition…you crush them by offering something different and original…something that G4 once had, and is slowly being replacing it by the trashy and the mundane. And your right, just adding more Star Trek is not the answer either…

Posted by Nirvana420 - Monday, October 16, 2006 3:05 PM

An overdose of nostalgia certainly isn't the answer for a network whose best asset is keeping ahead of the curve of new technology. I agree G4 could be bigger than MTV if they took a few risks and stopped playing it safe with old shows like Star Trek. The interesting thing about the feed is that there are definitely stories that aren't found on many other websites. If G4 dedicated themselves to the current landscape of games, music and even politics, they could be enormous. If they continue to play it safe they will fizzle out just as MTV has been doing since BSB hit the scene...

Posted by robertfuqua - Monday, October 16, 2006 3:10 PM

I would love to say I didn't know what BSB meant, but DAMMIT! (Holds head in shame, sobbing.) If the company that owned them was willing to take a chance, G4 could go from being the 1-2 hours of TV I watch a day to being the network I can't live without.

Posted by Slash02 - Monday, October 16, 2006 3:11 PM

I'm not so sure. Looks like you're already streamlining your programming. For example Star Trek 2.0 is off the air now, except Saturdays.

Keep some of the old nostalgia ... it widens your viewing audience. Junky comedy shows get pretty boring.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Monday, October 16, 2006 3:36 PM

G4 , wow alot of people are pissed off with your new shows and show times. Brinjg back the great old shows and stop playing crappy shows. Also please stop showing star tek next generation. You ve been through the whole season like 7 times. damn. All of theese complaints should be a hint to make g4 how it was in the old days, or make a balnce with the new shows and old video game shows

Posted by Bigdev - Monday, October 16, 2006 4:20 PM

Not a Str Trek fan and gets pissed off when it goes on all day Saturday.G4 u need to improve. U got only 2 good shows. What ever happenened to the good ol days when it was video game heaven. Com'n do some good. But the website is awesome and is always up to date.

Posted by tripleo17 - Monday, October 16, 2006 4:29 PM

I hope you don't end but if you can put shows like Macgyver or Andromeda you can get more of peoples vote.

Posted by Capt_Faust - Monday, October 16, 2006 4:53 PM

MacGyver? On a g4? My first reaction was WTF...but judging the recent programming I would not be surprised if G4 did put it on its schedule...

Posted by videogameTV - Monday, October 16, 2006 4:53 PM

i barely know what this news means... G4's now headed by E!, right? its still gonna be a seperate channel? (man im dumb... lol)

I'm pretty new to this site and so far it's pretty pimp. I like this site better now since you guys got tons of good videos.

Posted by levache - Monday, October 16, 2006 5:35 PM

Three words. TechTV was awesome. It was geared to a wider array of people as opposed to G4. Granted, video games are becoming more popular and G4 has realized this. However, it is taking gaming to extreme. Kinda like a little annoying brother who wont leave you alone when you are busy. AOTS hardly compares to TSS or even CFH for that matter. The tech aspect is being lost admist a bunch of shows that reiterate the same information. G4 has strayed away from any educational aspect that techtv had. I watched G4 a few times and became utterly bored and stupified at how unknowlegable the show hosts are.

Posted by levache - Monday, October 16, 2006 5:36 PM

It is now, unfortunately, targeted towards an adolesent age group who want to do nothing but game, watch women in revealing clothing, and hear crude and unintelligent phrases. God save us all from this next generation of kids. Eh, I guess this just means Ill have to do more reading to get my daily dose of tech in. Alrighty, Im off to do something more constructive, because this post is getting me nowhere.

Posted by elraver - Monday, October 16, 2006 5:44 PM

You just call The Sess and Morgan unknowledgeable(should be a 'd' in there buddy)? Them there be fightin' words.

Posted by pigswillpay - Monday, October 16, 2006 6:38 PM

I agree with the others who feel that G4 needs to die. I used to love watching G4 back when Xplay had a new episode every day and back when AOTS was actually about cool stuff, not just porn stars and celebrities and other mainstream crap that I could just as easily find on MTV even if I WANTED to see that kind of sh*t. Unfortunately, I stopped watching AOTS when Sarah Lane left (I would consider this the final blow to AOTS before it became destroyed to me) and Xplay will be next. I don't want to watch the Man Show, or any of these other crappy reruns of crappy shows that you bought off of some other crappy station. I just want my good old video game shows back. Sadly, I don't think this will ever happen as G4 couldn't just relinquish its new ways and go back to the way things used to be. Oh, BTW I never liked any of the TechTV programs. All it was was Call For Help reruns. LEO LAPORT MUST DIE!

Posted by spitfirec4 - Monday, October 16, 2006 7:12 PM

just bring back g4tv.com the show, the good x-play before it turned crappy, new episodes of cheat, screen savers or the old aots, actuall show in depth coverage of events like tgs not chopped up 5 min segments. Also bring back jeoff keighly and some of the old favorites like tommy talorico and sarah lane. Try to be original again and bring back pulse. Stop bringing canceled shows from other stations over. Do u expect us to watch them all the time. I want a balnace betewwen my pop culture and videogames so keep some shows like star trek, try to get mxc, but dont show them all the fricken time like u have with star trek next genenration. Oh and bring back kevin Rose

Posted by nickjuly4 - Monday, October 16, 2006 7:19 PM

G4 is no long the same video game tv network I used to watch, now most of the video game shows are either changed into a dumb (almost video game free) (example: Filter, icons) version or cancelling and taken the shows off air and replacing them with dumb shows that most other networks didn't want. People want to watch G4 to see shows about videos games, not this dumb stuff. So far the only video games shwos left are Cheat! and X-Play and kinda ATOS, but ATOS is kinda 40% video game, 40% tech and 20% misc. Next thing you know G4 will probably decide to change cheat into some shows about girl's boyfriend's cheating on them and X-Play will probably be changed into a show that rates rap music bands and other ramdom non-sense (oops I shouldn't have said that, now thoe shows might be changed too :O)

Posted by supageckomon - Monday, October 16, 2006 7:19 PM

Hmmmmm . . . G4 is pretty much corporate run... I never watched G4 extensivley until it overtook TechTv. Now it seems that G4 IS DEAD and exists in name only. The original concept of the channel was a great idea and its now lost in fluff. Sometimes it's best to "know when to say when." G4 was better when it had "cult" status.

Posted by supageckomon - Monday, October 16, 2006 7:20 PM

And another thing . . . In reference to the shuffling of "bosses", there is one more tagline missing: "Other Peoples Misfortune"

Posted by The Raven - Monday, October 16, 2006 7:44 PM

Funny. Reason? G4 died after it took over TechTV, screwed all of the TechTV people over, and then screwed over all the videogame shows. G4 = SpikeTV wannabe....

...Only Worse.

Posted by jeditrip - Monday, October 16, 2006 7:52 PM

I only watch XPLAY and AOTS. The rest of the programming SUCKS. The website is very good. The problem with G4 is it has lost site of it's purpose(video games). Instead it is trying to go after the almighty dollar. The same thing happen to MTV.

I'm in agreement overall- back in the day I used to love most of the shows on G4.

Now, I must have my AOTS and I love catching X-Play too (even though I find critcs to be the most meaningless job there is, sorry Morgan and Adam).

But right now? There's nothing else on the channel I care to watch- including the "retooled" filter, or whatever they did to poor Cinematech- which used to be cool, but is now just juvenile.

Don't forget, G4, you have viewers who are in their mid-30's (or older)!

Posted by ff2fan - Monday, October 16, 2006 9:13 PM

Make more Gamemakers episodes and I agree bring back G4TV.com The Show. That and please kill the current version of AOTS and bring back The Screen Savers, Back when it was G4techtv, the network was great, 2006 is the year that killed G4.

Rumors as they may be, the loss of weekday ST2.0/Spock Market will be greatly missed. This, because of the timing of the "merging" of the stations, seems to be the first of many changes that may dilute the programming from a "tech" oriented platform towards much more"entertainment" type of platform. Decisions as they have been made can only continue to alienate the core watcher groups from this television station. Forcing some disillusion upon myself is is of concern but it is after all your station to run and set programming for,so I again think it is a very poor decision to merge these stations as they really operate at differing spectrums of television. One is brain-less and weak, the other is smart and expanding. You can figure out which ones I presume to be apart of and that veiw may again differ from veiwpoint to veiwpoint.

I, personally, have not watched G4 since the loss of TechTv. There is just nothing on this channel that interests me. Then came along Star Trek 2.0. Wow, what a blast I have had playing. Now, ST 2.0 is only on weekends. Well, I guess G4 has nothing for me again. I might still tune in for ST 2.0 on weekends, but the rest of the week? I will tune into Spike for my Star Trek fix. Thanks for ruining a very fun game G4. And hey, iLan_Greenspock - love the new stocks on the weekends. Thanks for that. I mean it.

This is such a crock of sh*t! They actually have the nerve to lie like this still!

Funny how the article forgot to mention the most telling indicator that G4 might close shop.

THEY'RE LAYING OFF A NUMBER OF PEOPLE EN MASSE!

That's quite a cost-cutting measure, wouldn't you say?

As a matter of fact, someone from G4 will be interviewing at my work tomorrow!

Normally, I would say that it's up in the air (hell, what do I know, it's not like I'm an insider!), but the fact that they're laying off all the support and administrative staff AND talking about closing the doors on the production facility...hmmmm, gee...what could that mean?

Are they even continuing to tape new shows?

Posted by bugmenot234 - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 1:35 AM

Sign of lack of results. Comcast only cares about the bottom line and when your operations get folder into a sibling's operation you're right to fear for your job.

Who thought killing techtv to replace its programming with 100% game oriented program would be lackluster?

Step 1: buy semi-successful tv station with its own production, intelligent show and set of hard core fans.
Step 2: gut and kill and layoff and move everything to LA. Replace all programming with idiotic shows about games, fastlanes and 40 yo star trek.
Step 3: profits. Wait. no. layoffs.

Woohoo!

Posted by gratu - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 5:54 AM

I really don't care about who's boss is boss or if E! is involved. Your handling of ST 2.0 by moving it to Saturday without giving fans much notice sucks. And there is NO demographic that Jamie Kennedy will attract. Sheesh. I can tell you I won't be watching your channel after work now. Bring back 2.0 and try to save your 5 viewers.

Posted by TXVinylJunkie - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 6:11 AM

Great now there's going to be shitty shows like True Silicon Valley Stories and G4 Soup. What happened to shows about video games?

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 6:26 AM

The only possible way you could ever start to "get better" is by slowly going back to your original roots of video games (as well as technology, since you devoured TechTV as well). I will admit now that the only possible way to redeem yourself in my eyes is by cancelling all of these non-gaming and non-technology shows which you seem to love showing more and more often and just flat out saying "Don't worry, we were just kidding! G4 will still be about games, and here's how we'll prove that to you..." Rather than attempting to dim down your programming for more simple-minded imbeciles, relish the programming you have that only people who have actually played games or been on a computer may enjoy.

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 6:34 AM

But honestly, please either go back to all gaming and technology programming or just go full monty on your "new path" by cancelling anything video game related. Choose one or the other, please, so then I can either avoid you entirely and stop wasting my time hoping that a glorious day may come when you go back to being about only video games or I can start frittering away hours and hours watching your channel all day because it appeals to my tastes and what you were originally about: games (video games, not board games like X-Play's review of Candy Land). I feel that dedicated viewers of this channel can agree when I say that G4 now has a period in it's life that I and others would refer to as "the good ol' days".

Posted by Snaileb - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 7:20 AM

is anyone at G4 listening to this marofox guy? They should.

Posted by altizar - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 7:23 AM

Would the loss of G4 really be that big a deal?
You have like only 2 decent original shows, Attack of the Show and X-Play. Star Trek? - Sorry but that is sooo Played. The Man Show? - It's not Played yet, but it's working on it. Ninja Warrior? - Actually this one's pretty good (thumbs up) Cinematec? - It's okay, but would be better if you didn't blur the good parts, not like anybody up watching it anyhow. Ed the Sock? - WTF a canadian T&A show? I think we can do better than that.
If you want to stay on the air, you need more Anime (look at cartoon network's adult swim and thier saturday night line-up), more T&A all hostess dressed in bikinis to do the shows, and for heaven sakes get some Benny Hill!!!

Posted by Snaileb - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 7:26 AM

I'll agree with altizar on that one too, though we have our differences. Like Benny Hill. Benny Hill sucks c_ck for coke. Not really. Maybe.

... I just read the end of the gentle's blog for this topic and... it seems the people that can't defend themselves at this point is G4. Where you at?

We can defend ourselves just fine.

Please stop putting crappy shows......please....
You are like MTV...no music = G4...2 videogame shows......WTF...I really don't watch the channel anymore cause there are only 2 good shows about games, the rest is Star Trek and a lot of crap.

Posted by greenfrogthing - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 8:15 AM

When G4 took over TechTV i was scared that the computer/video game channel was a thing of the past. At this point the only show i watch on the network is Xplay, because everything else is just leftovers no longer showed on other networks. I find this to be very sad...I especially hate what's happened to The Screen Savers....Maybe it's time for this channel to just go away. You do a lot of things, and sadly enough, none of them good.

Posted by MisterKalas - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 8:26 AM

Okay G4, we believe you now. I guess this means that you're seeking improvement and cool stuff for the network.

Posted by The_Rave - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 8:49 AM

Famous last words. Especially since the rebirth of Filter is an EXACT carbon-copy clone of the mundane 101 crap-downs on E!. Oh, and your last minute optimism sounds SO genuine and sincere, I can tell everyone is really thrilled and not at all worried about their futures.

Just checking your pulse, sjohnson.

G4 died a LONG time ago. When the channel first started a few years ago ('02?) I simply couldn't stop watching. Judgement Day, G4TV.com, Portal, the original Arena. It was all so good. And it ALL had to do with video games. And the cast seemed like a family.

Now G4 is just one more generic channel like Fuse or MTV2. I couldn't care less if this channel tanked. X-Play is the only thing worth watching on here. Star Trek, the Man Show, JK Experiment....wow, I can see all that crap on TNT, FX, Spike, etc.

How about it G4? Are you gonna sit back and watch as E! infects your programming and makes you as repulsive and hideous as an MTV/Spike lovechild? Or will you stand up and fight for this cool little network? Will you take your sh*tty star trek reruns off the air and create something innovative and interesting again? Or did you all give up once Sarah Lane left? Is G4 out of ambition? Us kids need some answers...

Posted by streetpilot1 - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 11:40 AM

I love AOTS and X-PLAY but for a tech channel G4 does not seem to have much tech. "Call for help" was good but is now gone. G4 needs KEVIN ROSE back. The way "The Screen Savers" used to run. Wills pieces are good but there is not enough of them. The Feed is too short. NO MORE BAD BANDS!!! I love the present cast but it is missing something. To the new regime i want to say this, BE CAREFULL!!. This channel is it for tech and games and related stuff on cable. The only one. DO NOT SCREW THIS UP!!!!!!!!!! And don't sell out.

Battle bots are gay. but It still better than some asshole snowboarder running a hotel. That dewd should just go back to smoking pot and drinking mountaindew and leave the tv shows to people who actually have the ability to write.

Posted by levache - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 12:40 PM

Arena blowed. It is alot more fun to watch people play games in person than on a crappy tv show. All the original shows on G4 blowed. Only good show left is X-play. Only because it was created by the people of TechTV. The rest of the shows are for adolescent addicts who like to jerkoff and game all day. Except star trek. Those are good but only because G4 didnt create them.

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 1:11 PM

AOTS is good. I like most of the interviews and content that is on it. X play is awesome. We need more morgan webb she needs her own show.

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 1:42 PM

I really dont like cheat either. I like the idea behind EP but they need to change it somewhat. Im pretty sure you could make a good arena type show even though I dont care for watching people play games unless there sitting next to me.

Posted by Bigdev - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 1:56 PM

Yes Snoop Dizzle Morgan makes everything look better. Anyway they could also bring better shows.G4 is starting needs better. (I hope G4 is reading everything). Guys with no life get 1. The website could also have more info.Maybe G4 should give up shows and be a complete website with magazines.Just a thought

Posted by hetman - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 2:23 PM

Maybe they could try to produce some originial series also. I mean scifi did it and there originial programming is good sometimes. Eureka is great if anyone hasnt seen it they should watch it. Its on tonight i beleive. And if you are going to buy old programes atleast buy good stuff like "dead like me" or soem show that actually made money instead of the jammie kennedy thing. If that show was making money wouldnt it still be on wb or whatever station it was on.

Posted by darkdetective - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 2:55 PM

If G4 can purchase the rights to both "Star Trek: The Original Series" and "Star Trek: The Next Generation", can it also purchase the rights to "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"?

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 3:00 PM

"People who need their own shows. Adam Sessler with a more in depth, and hands on show on video games.(aside from x-play with morgan) Will Oneal needs a tech show, and maybe host a show like call for help. Kevin should host video game cometitions (better version of Arena on a bigger scale). Morgan needs to host Cheat instead of kirsten holt(cheat kinda sucks)."

Well said, snoop_dizzle. All very good ideas.

Now, I'm thinking that not all shows on this channel are crap (such as Star Trek, though I was never a fan) but though it may be a good show, I feel it doesn't belong on a network that should be about video games. Though I would like to expand on my comment earlier by saying that I'd like G4 to be about only various media (such as movies, comic books, etc.) but mostly just computers and technology, internet, and video games.

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 3:08 PM

Honestly, people! There may be great shows out there, but just because you like them doesn't mean they belong on a channel you like as well, just so you get everything you like in one package. If I like, say, The Dukes of Hazzard or some other popular show, I'd be respectful enough to never wish to see it on, for example, ESPN or any other channel it surely wouldn't belong on. What G4 does is what I like to call "The MTV effect", where you begin a channel with a glorious goal to appeal to a growing fanbase of a semi-newly popular thing at the time (for MTV, it was the rebellious teen rock and roll trend, for G4, it's video gamers), but then slowly change over time to something completley different that has nothing to do with the goal of your original channel.

Posted by nickjuly4 - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 3:20 PM

I can't belive how much a chanel can change in one single year, I remember last year watcing E3 2005 on G4, and right after that was lots and lots of video game shows, even the old (better) Filter and Icons. This year when I was watching E3 2006 on G4 right after that was there crappy Night time block of shows and the next video game relataed shows wouldn't come on until late that night like at 2:00 AM.

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 3:22 PM

If G4 wanted more viewers, they should come up with original, creative ideas for programming rather than changing the horizons of the shows and the programming that started it off as a popular channel. Why would you cancel Arena, or Portal, or any of those shows that made your channel popular to begin with? I firmly believe that the gaming culture isn't "too narrow" as some TV executives have commented. Video games and PC games is probably one of the largest growing cultures in the world, so I know damn well that G4 didn't change to a male-oriented channel to appeal to a bigger demographic. It did it to try and give other channels competition. So G4 changes from a rather stable idea (gaming only) to a larger idea (male-oriented, which could mean anything and seems rather close minded, assuming all males like to watch this or that) in an effort to take viewers away from other channels.

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 3:30 PM

So you're guilty, G4! You're guilty of changing yourself to an unsuccessful idea and surely only losing your original fan base in the process. Not only that, but TechTV fans are angry as well for G4 swallowing their beloved technology channel, killing all shows but two, and at that changing those shows so much that they're nothing like they used to be. So please, I ask of you, on behalf of the many, many TechTV and classic G4 fans I'm certain agree with me, change your channel back to what made it stand out and what made it original. Change back to the orignal view of G4 (maybe with some exceptions to make way for technology shows such as Call for Help, and perhaps shows aimed towards movies and even internet culture). The one that everyone can agree was far better than the G4 now. Bring back such shows as Filter, Portal, and Arena. The fans have spoken, and they want change for the better, back to the original G4...

To NoFunBob,

I was searching for some example of any kind of show inappropriatly placed on a network that doesn't share the same genre as the show itself. The Dukes of Hazzard was, unfortunately, the first thing to come to mind. My apologies if it seems to be a bad example to use in such a comparison.

.2.wHAT THE FUC.K IS UP WITH SO MANY DAMN STAR TREK NEXT GENERATION EPISODES. AOTS IS DEAD, U SCREWED THAT SHOW UP AND CINIMATECH IS NOW MESSED UP
3.bRING BACK G4TV.COM THE SHOW, OLD FILTER AND ICONS, I MISS PULSE, OH AND BRING SOME OF THOSE O0LD TECH TV SHOWS BACK. U COULD ALSO SHOE GEOFF KEIGHLY AND TINA WOOD AGAIN OR TOMMY TALORICO.
4. fINALY STOP TRYING TO BE LIKE SPIKETV. vIDEOGAMES MADE YOU ORIGINAL, UR MAKING THE SAME MISTAKE THAT MTV MADE AND THN MTV2 MADE

Posted by robertfuqua - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 4:29 PM

I was only kidding. I also find it ironic I expelled a bit of illiteracy when misspelling the title of all things, 'The Dukes of Hazzard'. I use IE7, and I think, regardless of browser, if you have posted a comment and then haven't steered away from the page but rather are just refreshing to see if anyone is responding, it will repost. (I'm ashamed to say I have done this a couple of times.)

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 4:34 PM

I'd rather think that the PS3 is having unfortunate circumstances for its launch. But that's aside the point. Although spitfirec4's comment seems offensive, he is right. It would be nice if the G4 staff actually read these posts about viewer reccomendations to change the network for the better. See, a channel seems more appealing when you actually take into account what your viewers really want and ask for, and even better, a channel seems really, REALLY appealing when the popular demand is answered by the network itself. It's just like critiquing: if nothing in the art is changed from the advice of others, the popularity of that art tends to decline. So therefor, why don't you listen to us, G4? Why do you not listen to the clearly logical, practical, intelligent (sometimes), and effective comments and critiques of your viewers? Do you not wish to please them? Isn't that the entire point of having a channel devoted to a certain culture?

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 4:36 PM

Replying to NoFunBob: Indeed it can be fairly embarrasing when you find out such a thing happened. But, such a folley surely won't be rememembered. It's far too insignificant for such long-lasting rememberance.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 4:38 PM

I AGREE wit snail, snaile pull some strings and do something, g4 practicaly sucks now, they only bring bacl old canceled shows and play reruns of star trek all the fricken time. Bring back the old cast and change x-play back to the original

Posted by supageckomon - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 5:37 PM

marofox--I may be mistaken, but i believe G4 relies on focus groups, something that i don't necessarily think lends to creativity. Also, I think they don't "read" these comments (im speaking of the ones in charge who the writers here deem "the bosses.") for they probably are not web savvy, rather just guys in suits. Just my take. Any response from you Feed writers?

Posted by marofox - Tuesday, October 17, 2006 5:57 PM

I'd have to agree with you, supageckomon. Though I find it unfortunate that the various show choices and general fate of this channel is in the hands of men in suits who probably don't even like or play video games.

Live Morning show with Morgan and others. I do not know what they would do though, but it would be fun.

I personally believe that G4 has gone downhill. Yeah go ahead and flame me for it, I dont have a ****. Ever since the acquiring of TechTV a few years ago G4 has dropped the ball numerous amount of times. WTF, the only "game" shows we have is AOTS and X-play. What the **** ever happened to the original Filter, Cheat!, Judgement Day, Electric Playground, and others. Sure, most of them are re-runs but come on, G4, dont be another MTV or Spike. You're better than that. I will love to see Adam, Morgan or that lame fiend Kevin reply to this. I am absolutely right; I am sick and tired of Star Trek, watch that shit on Spike or something, not on here, it's stupid!!

This feed posting seems to have a "do not pay any attention to the man behind the curtain" feel to it.

I remember a day in March of 2004 when some viewer emails were being read on a little show called "The Screen Savers".

A petite young woman read a comment to the effect of "I heard that TechTV was bought by Comcast. Is this really true?" to which I paraphrase the jolly, nearly 50 year old master geek communicator reply of...

"Yes, a purchase was announced today and we are excited. The new owner has paid a lot of money for us, and that is a good thing. They really like what we do and everything is going to be great."

Well, we all know how that story turned out. I see a sequel on the horizon.

Well, G4, as my cousin sees it, is pretty much dead. I, however, always hope that G4 will someday go back to their roots and that it will show us what G4 used to be before airing a lot of syndication and sexual content. It only gets worse because there's gonna be EVEN MORE syndication coming towards G4. It's like the well-known networks like ABC, FOX, WB, NBC, hell, even channels from OTHER COUNTRIES throw away the bad shows, only to have then recycled and reused by G4.

Posted by G4Jhoto - Friday, October 20, 2006 10:33 PM

I think the major problem is Comcast alone. I used to be a Comcast basic cable subscriber before we moved on to Dish Network. COMCAST themselves claim that satellites are a bad idea because of the rain and the winds and the--WHATEVER! The darn company thinks that satellites only give an analog signal (which is prone to rain and, of course, light gusts), but they should know that they give DIGITAL channels. They just say all this so we can switch to their digital stuff. Kind of cheap, if you ask me. Did I mention that Comcast is a bit trendy on some topics, e.g. that deluge of celebrity talk?

Posted by jejones3141 - Saturday, October 21, 2006 5:44 PM

"Rumors of G4’s Death…Totally Bogus"? Too bad, if it's true, i.e. too bad if G4 _isn't_ going to die.

As someone famous said, "There are so many little deaths along the way, it doesn’t matter which one is the last one." G4 was mostly dead eve before this news--how much original programming do they produce? Heck, TV Land is _all_ reruns, and I'm sure has better ratings than G4.

Posted by Nerkcon - Sunday, October 29, 2006 11:06 AM

I never heard of E!, Better go looking for the channel. What about TechTV? I wasn't a TechTV fan because I also never heard of it(I live under a rock and rarely read news.)I lost a few friends because of it though! :( But still, a channel telling you have you can upgrade your computer and hardware to its highest level? We need to bring it back.

Posted by AgentSmith47 - Monday, October 30, 2006 12:46 PM

I remember the days when G4 meant "Online, Console, PC, Handheld/Wireless Games" G4 the multiplatform media news on games. Remember Portal? I still think G4 still has potential as great network. But this new thing Comcast has going on with changing the network is stupid. X-Play introduced me to TechTV when we went satelite. And I was glad when G4 came because I remember the stuff they had before. But now with the time changes for X-Play, just to show JKX? What the piss! Look I'm all for diversification of one's assets but to take one network dedicated to technology another network to dedicated to gaming. It had potential. But taking away its sources that made it fun in the begining to turn it to this muck is wrong. Comcast you have potential to have a good and original channel and to have it turn the way of E!, which after losing Steve and Jules I was done, is wrong and instead of losing one you lose three networks and lose on serious bank.
