Bush to Ban Internet Gambling

Posted October 2, 2006 - By PryzeFighter

There is a fifty-fifty chance you will never be able to place another bet online.  After numerous attempts to put the kibosh on internet gambling, Congress has approved legislation that makes it illegal to transfer money from your bank or credit card account to a gambling website, after attaching the rider to a port security bill. Shady enough for you? President Bush is expected to sign the bill this week which also has major implications for making online wagers.

We all know the downsides to excessive gambling and some, like me, have experienced major losses from online sites. However, this is yet another stab from the conservative moral Right to infringe on our personal freedoms. This also could be the first step in a long line of future legislation to regulate the web. Need I say “slippery slope?”

Today I learned something about politics. If you think your bill doesn’t have a shot in hell of making it through Congress, just attach it to a more popular bill, such as...enhancing port security.
