Mariah Carey, Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Black Eyed Peas and Nickelback lead the pack at the American Music Awards nominations, garnering three nominations each.
Carey is nominated for Favorite Female Artist: Soul/ Rhythm & Blues, which she won last year, as well as Favorite Album: Soul/ Rhythm & Blues for The Emancipation of Mimi and Favorite Female Artist: Pop/Rock, both of which she lost in 2005.
Meanwhile, Eminem, Kelly Clarkson, Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, the Pussycat Dolls, T.I., Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts scored two apiece, and Pearl Jam, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Nick Lachey, Sean Paul, Chris Brown, Ne-Yo, Dem Franchize Boyz, Three 6 Mafia, Daddy Yankee, Keyshia Cole, Rob Thomas, Jagged Edge, Aly & AJ, Don Omar and the Isley Brothers aeach got one nom.
To be held November 21 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, the event will air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
The nominees are based on record sales, and the winners will be selected through a survey of about 20,000 Americans. In other words, whoever sells the most records each year, get the awards. So in addition to the massive fame and wealth that comes with the high sales, rock stars now get actual awards for being famous and wealthy.
Geez, don’t these people get enough already?!?
Fyi, the Favorite Female Rap/ Hip-Hop Artist category was eliminated this year because less than five artists met the minimum eligibility requirement…of being any good.
