Guitar God Eddie Van Halen phoned into The Howard Stern Show on Sirius this morning for a rare interview. He was promoting a new porn flick with director Michael Ninn that he helped finance and scored with two new instrumentals. The X-rated version of Sacred Sin is out on September 13, while an R-rated version called Rise will be cut for theatrical release to be released in early 2007.
Among the things Eddie revealed was that he cured his tongue cancer via experimental and illegal methods, and that he funded his own cancer research lab to do so.
He also said he was not happy with former Van Halen bandmates Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar for touring as The Other Half. He called them a cover band of his material. He called Sammy the “little red rocker” and the “little red worm.”
As for the state of Van Halen, he said the band will continue in some form with him and his brother Alex carrying on with his 15 year old son Wolfgang, who described as a “dangerous” guitarist, bassist and drummer.
But the real news here is that when Stern asked if he’d ever work with original VH frontman David Lee Roth again, he replied, “I’m open to anything.” He confirmed they got together in 2000 after 1997’s aborted reunion, but that it was short-lived and fizzled. He described Roth as “a loose cannon,” but said he’s fine working with loose cannons.
But considering Eddie is on the outs with Michael Anthony, it seems a full-fledged reunion of the original VH lineup still ain’t likely.
Crap! How come every band that ever existed has reunited, but the only band I want to reunite can’t get it together! C’mon, ya bastards, get it together before it’s too late! I’ve said it before and I’ll scream it again, “I WANT VAN HALEN AND DAVID LEE ROTH TO REUNITE!!!! MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!!!!! PLEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!”
