Keith Richards: Scot-Free & Still Smokin’

Posted August 28, 2006 - By F M

Apparently at Scotland’s Hampden Park venue, you cannot light up a smoke onstage. Keith Richards found this out the hard way Friday night on during the Rolling Stones performance there when he was informed that the Glasgow City Council was keeping a close eye on him to see if he smoked during the gig.

So what did the world first rock ‘n’ roll pirate do? He light up anyways and smoked as much as he wanted to. He’s friggin’ Keef, man. What else would he do?

Despite threats of arrest, the Scots let him get away with it and deemed Keith exempt from the new law, which bans smoking in enclosed public places.

Violators of the new law, which took effect in March and includes theaters and sports venues, can be fined up to $95. For Keith, that’s not even what he spends on a lighter, but they let him go anyways.

Maybe the loophole was that he wasn’t smoking tobacco???
