Heavy metal vet Ronnie James Dio will not only make a cameo appearance in Tenacious D’s long-awaited feature film, Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, but he’ll appear on the soundtrack too.
In the flick, Dio appears as himself to offer inspiration to a young Jack Black.
"In the scene, [Black] is 10 or 12," Dio says. "His father comes in and rails at him and slams the door. On the back of the door is a big poster of me. He starts singing to the poster: 'Dio, tell me what I should do?' And I come alive off the poster, sing a song and reply to him."
Operatic rocker Meatloaf, who also appears on the soundtrack, plays Black’s dad in the film, which also features cameos from Tim Robbins, Ben Stiller, Amy Poehler, Fred Armisen and Colin Hanks. Foo Fighters mainman Dave Grohl, who enlisted Black on his Probot metal side-project album, will also be heard on the soundtrack.
Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny will be released Nov. 17, while the Epic soundtrack album due three days earlier.
