In today’s edition of the New York Post’s Page 6 gossip section, they say that famed New York club The Continental, locazted right smack in the middle of St. Marks Place is closing! Noooooo!!!!
The last gig there is supposed to be on Sept. 16 and will be headlined by a supergroup comprised of Dictators frontman "Handsome" Dick Manitoba (the handsomest man in rock ‘n’ in case you forgot), Lenny Kaye from Patti Smith's group, C.J. Ramone of The Ramones and Ramones producer Daniel Rey. New York hardcore vets Murphy's Law will play the previous night, just to make sure at least a few fans get their teeth punched out that final week.
And word has it that the last gig at CBGBs before it shuts down for good will be a set by ska-punk legends Fishbone on Sept. 30.
Man, New York just got a lot less rockin’…
