Dan Aykroyd and Steve Buscemi have joined the cast of I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, a story in which Adam Sandler and Kevin James get married, even though they're straight, to take advantage of their employer's health care.
This film was written, at least in part, by Alexander Payne, who I admire for having written and directed Election and Sideways, two amazingly good and very insightful films. Still, I can't help but think that this film is going to come off as gay bashing somehow, even if that's not the intended result.
While I don't doubt that the film will be amusing, there's something inherently creepy about it right from the start. Are we going to learn the lesson that gay people are just like everyone else by the end of the film? I bet we will. And are there going to be jokes about unintentional man-on-man action throughout? I'd bet my house on it.
Now, if I'm wrong, and it ends up being a tender love story during which Sandler and James actually fall in love with each other, I'll be happy to apologize.
