2K Sports has just announced a partnership with Sub Pop records for music to be played in the NHL 2K7 game they are releasing for the PS2 and PS3 game systems this fall. It's a strange pickup for 2K, as you normally don't associate emo music with slamming players into the boards to retrieve a loose puck.
As dvinson pointed out when we heard this news, "I can't see beating the crap out of someone while The Postal Service plays in the background. Is there a scene in the game where one of the players gets dumped and so he starts to cry?"
Nonetheless, there's some pretty good music in the game, and Sub Pop is pretty awesome. Here's a partial list of bands. Postal Service, Hot Hot Heat, Sleater-Kinney, Mudhoney, and The Constantines are just some of the Sub Pop bands you can look forward to scoring to.
Of course, no hockey game will ever live up to Blades of Steel, and that only had computer generated beeps for music. Where's Rush when you need them?
Here's the Sub Pop lineup for NHL2K7:
Band of Horses- Wicked Gil
Hot Hot Heat- Talk to me, Dance with Me
Kinski- Hot Stenographer
Love as Laughter- Temptation Island
Mudhoney- Empty Shells
The Postal Service- Brand New Colony
Seaweed- Losing Skin
The Constantines- Working Full-time
The Thermals- I Hold the Sound
