When you have John Irving and Stephen King trying desperately trying to save your lead character, you know you've writting something that's truly permeated the culture. Such is the case with Harry Potter, who is rumored to be headed for the big Tri-Wizard Tournament in the sky in J.K. Rowling's last book, which she is on the verge of finishing as we speak.
King and Irving, speaking to Rowling at a charity event at Radio City Music Hall, asked her to 'be fair' to Harry, and give him a reprieve. Rowling said she'd be able to make no promises as to the final fate of Harry.
Personally speaking, I think he has to die to make the story work. But I already made my call as to what would be in the final book.
