So I get this letter in the mail today, letting me know about "Johnson Family Reunion '06"
It's from a formerly unknown relative, Brenda Leigh Johnson. She waxes all homey about how sorry she is to be missing the big family party, her new job on the LAPD, "Mommo's banana pudding and Aunt Valerie's pecan pie," and her new relationship with an FBI agent...
The problem is, Brenda Leigh Johnson is a character on TNT's The Closer, and the folksy family letter is, in actuality, an advertisement for the season premeir of the show, presumably mailed to everyone named "Johnson" in the entire country.
I'm not sure why
this is so disconcerting to me...maybe because television people using
Americans' desires for family togetherness so blatantly seems a little
below-the-belt.
