An 11-year-old kid straight outta Illinois named Owen Voorhees (nephew of Jason?) developed his very own iPhone application called MathTime.
Wow!
It took Voorhees and his 9-year-old brother Finn nine months to create the app, but it was worth it as it debuted in the App Store and soon rose to No. 13 in the paid, educational apps section. In fact, MathTime, the .99-cent application, was downloaded 141 times in a one day.
"It started booming," said Owen, "I woke up and I was like, I'm an entrepreneur now."

Ya see, Perry is holding a contest through Twitter where fans can make suggestions and the winner will score... a guitar! From Joe "Friggin'" Perry, dammit!!! Firefox 3.5 Downloaded 5 Million Times In 24 Hours!Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, July 02, 2009 10:07 AM
Firefox 3.5 was downloaded around 5 million times during its first 24 hours of availability. This is impressive, but still doesn't match Firefox 3's number: 8 million. According to one tracking firm, Firefox 3.5 now accounts for 2.5 of all browsers, which is more than Opera. Firefox as a whole is sitting up around 20-30% market share. As I reported on Tuesday, Firefox 3.5 includes several improvements that make the browser render pages faster and load JavaScript more efficiently. Did you download Firefox 3.5? Tweetcraft Brings Twitter To World Of WarcraftPosted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:49 AM
Twitter and World of Warcraft go together perfectly--both are social experiments that double as incredible time-sinks. But can you combine them? Yes, you can. Tweetcraft allows you to send and receive tweets while in Azeroth. This is just the thing for those boring Griffin trips, eh? The application also supports auto-tweets when you start the game, enter an instance and earn an achievement, and auto-posting of in-game screenshots It seems like just the thing to help you fill out your raid, brag when you take down a boss, or find a group among your twitter friends. It's also the perfect thing to make work-bound twitter followers jealous of the fact that you're free to play World of Warcraft while they're stuck in the office! And it's free! Finish Splinter Cell: Conviction In 12 Hours On NormalPosted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:47 AM
In an interview with OXM, Splinter Cell: Conviction creative director Maxime Beland reveals that the game should take around 12 hours to complete on normal difficulty. The game will also ship with a "realistic" difficulty that will be soul-crushing, from the way Beland describes the mode: "...Realistic is going to be really f*cking hard - you're going to need stealth, two bullets is going to kill you, the enemies are going to be super-lethal." There seems to be a big difference between the two modes. Normal is so everyone can finish the game. That's fine. I'd appreciate a hard mode between that and realistic, however. Something not as brutal, but more challenging than normal. What do you think? PSA: Fallout 3 Is 50% This Weekend On Steam - $25Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:38 AM

Microsoft's Major Nelson Explains Silverlight Ads For Xbox 360Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, July 02, 2009 9:37 AM
Many users believed that this meant that more ads would be coming to the dashboard. Not so: "One of our core principles is to enhance, not interfere with the gaming experience, and we work directly with our partners to only deliver experiences that are relevant to the LIVE community. Silverlight will help make those ads a more organic part of the dashboard, like we’ve done with some of the NXE slots in the past." As Jake Gaskill noted yesterday, Silverlight is being added so advertisers can deliver more media rich ads along with HD video. Personally, I'm not that bothered by the ads on the Xbox 360 Dashboard. I just skip past them and load up my game. What about you? Project Natal To "Open An Entirely New Door," Says Tetsuya Mizuguchi And Suda 51Posted by Jake Gaskill - Thursday, July 02, 2009 8:59 AM
During an interview with Fumitsu, Q Entertainment head Tetsuya Mizuguchi, Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Suda 51 and Level-5’s Akihiro Hino were asked what their takeaway was from this year’s E3, and, as Joystiq reports, their consensus was, “Hardware-wise, it was all about Project Natal,” said Suda 51. Gamers love to point out that gaming is no longer strictly a nerd-thing. People from all walks of life, religious groups and levels of geeky-ness now enjoy video games. But on the downside, that means game companies make games for these different demographics. You got your soccer-mom fitness games, your old-people brain-training games, and now, some games specifically for the awkward chicks who make up the chorus in the school play. I'm talking, of course, about upcoming Wii and DS games based on the movie/play Grease. Paramount, the rights holder to Grease, will work with 505 Games to adapt the 1978 John Travolta vehicle into a party game for casual and family gamers. Paramount says Grease will "take full advantage of Nintendo Wii's motion-sensing controls and microphone and the DS's touch screen." Wait, the Wii has a microphone? News to me! In any case, expect your little sister to monopolize the TV with out-of-tune karaoke versions of "Summer Loving" when this come out. No release date has been announced. Morning Hangover #4: Patrick Accidentally Loves Doom And Raymond Remembers Alexis ArguelloPosted by Raymond Padilla - Thursday, July 02, 2009 6:00 AM
Welcome to "Morning Hangover" -- an excellent way to start your day with the crew at TheFeed...no matter what you're recovering from. Every morning you'll hear musings from two of TheFeed's editors and have the chance to share your thoughts on what's going on in the gaming world. So buckle up, say your prayers, eat your vitamins, and keep reading!
Patrick Klepek: Even though I'm someone who tends to find themselves accidentally absorbed in an iPhone game, the last thing I expected to spend my afternoon doing yesterday was obsessing over an on-rails version of Doom. Yet, I spent almost two hours tapping away at my screen with Doom Resurrection, trying to determine whether G4tv.com should care whether it exists. The weird part? Time Crisis was already released on the iPhone, yet Doom Resurrection is preicesly what Namco Bandai should have done with Time Crisis on the iPhone -- but they didn't. In conclusion? Give me more Doom Resurrection, please.

Happy Canada Day From G4tv.com!Posted by Andrew Pfister - Wednesday, July 01, 2009 8:12 PM
Andrew: Today is July 1st, and on this day in 1973, Canada declared its indepdence from the United States after a bloody 10-year war -- one that some might say is still being fought in small border towns to this day.* In celebration of her sovereignty, Raymond Padilla has assembled a tribute to Canada's best in game development, while I -- a guy who has actually been detained by authorities at the Canadian border -- wasted yet another afternoon proving that I don't have what it takes to become a game designer. Or a comedian. Happy Birthday, Canadian readers! * Needs citation. Raymond: While everyone around the world knows Canadian treasures like Chris Jericho, Kristin Kreuk, and Diana Krall, the country has made several notable contributions to the gaming world. While the Canadian government offers some generous incentives to Canadian developers, there's just some outstanding talent in the land of Celine Dion. One of gaming's longest running television programs also comes from Canada. Here are some reasons gamers should be thankful for The Great White North.

Blair Herter: Worst Person On Earth?Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, July 01, 2009 5:53 PM
As you probably know, the very existence of G4 correspondent Blair Herter causes strong feelings in everyone he meets. Sometimes those feelings become too much to take, and they must be expressed on the internet. I say this by way of introducing you to the We Hate Blair Herter... Get Him Off of X-Play facebook group. The group was started by X-Play fan Chelsea K., but was brought to the attention of G4 by Herter himself. Now all of Herter's co-workers, friends and just about everyone Blair has ever met has joined the group. I hear his own mother is the treasurer. I tracked Blair down to get his feelings on this important development, and he said "As someone who hates myself more than anyone else possibly could, and as a man who lives his life by the rules set forth by the Constitution of this great United States of America, I think it's only fair that everyone support the beautiful freedom of expression this group represents." "I really do suck," he added. Join up, and register your own contempt. Seriously, it's fun. |
Aerosmith guitarist and all around cool guy Joe Perry is asking fans to suggest a name for his upcoming solo album by Tweeting him.

Microsoft's own Major Nelson has done his best to settle the masses after the company announced that it would be bringing Silverlight (Microsoft's version of Flash) to the Xbox 360 to be used for advertisements. As always, the gamers were not happy and were quick to yell about having to view ads on a paid service.
