Forty million credit and debit card numbers.
That's the reported amount stolen by 11people charged with the biggest identity-theft case in America. By hacking through computer systems of major retailers such as TJ Maxx and Barnes & Noble, three U.S. citizens along with nine other people from China, Belarus, Estonia and Ukraine have stolen personal account numbers and passwords to be sold to the highest bidder.
According to the prosecutors, this enormous theft was an "international conspiracy". But what's even more worrying is that since 2005, 45 million credit card numbers were already at risk of being breached by hackers like the funky bunch above. Careful with your spending folks...

Like the U.S. and Russia for 44 years, Activision and EA seem like two superpowers engaged in a cold war, and the gaming world hangs in the balance. In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam critiques the actions of these two ultra-corporations of gaming, where they're succeeding and where they're failing. By dropping many of their more experimental and unique IPs in favor of safe, standard fare, can Activision avoid being labeled gaming's new "Evil Empire?"
What do you think? Is Activision or EA the enemy of ingenuity and original gaming, or do are they both threats to the future of gaming? Check out the video and let us know what you think or share your thoughts on our forums.

Gas Powered Games sends us some new screens for the Action/RTS/RPG hybrid Demigod for the PC. Inspired heavily by the insanely popular Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos custom map Defense of the Ancients (a.k.a. DOTA) the game looks to take the addictive and engrossing style of gameplay into the next level. They're taking their time with this baby, hopefully to perfect it when it ships sometime in February 2009.
