For those of you who’ve been spending your summer mornings getting up and watching G4 Rewind, G4 dug up something special for you. Some retro game music goodness in the form of a live concert featuring some great Nintendo music.
Set the Rewind machine for August 27th 2002. That was the day the New Japan Philharmonic gave a one-off performance entitled “Smashing… Live!” featuring the music of Nintendo’s then-killer app, Super Smash Bros. Melee. Soon after, music from this concert saw release as a CD giveaway when you subscribed to Nintendo Power Magazine and since then has become highly collectible and for good reason too, since this is a fantastic set of orchestrated game music.
