'Midnight Club: Los Angeles' Hands-On Impressions

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, July 31, 2008 7:36 PM

We had the pleasure of hanging out with Rockstar to try out the latest build on Midnight Club: Los Angeles and we definitely liked what we saw. You can’t talk about the game without talking about how well the developers at Rockstar San Diego have captured the city of LA. It isn’t a 100% street-by-street match, but it’s close.

Here's the new trailer.

When we walked in the game was paused with an impressive looking Mazda RX-8 sitting at an intersection. Brian was able to correctly identify the intersection by sight alone as the corner of Sunset Blvd. and Fairfax Ave. That’s impressive and speaks to the effort the developers have gone through to recreate LA.

Nintendo's Next Handheld Ready?

Posted by John Manalang - Thursday, July 31, 2008 5:28 PM

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter said yesterday that Nintendo's successor to its highly successful DS handheld could be introduced as early as this year.

Although DS sales are still strong here in North America and Europe, Japan's slowly drifting away from the company's touch-screen capable handheld. "DS sales are solid worldwide, but are weak in Japan, leading us to expect an introduction of a new device in Japan before the end of the calendar year," said Pachter. "We think that Nintendo has a new handheld device ready for launch in [Japan] before the end of the calendar year."

Nintendo Marketing head Cammie Dunaway recently said that the company has no plans in redesigning the DS, so Pachter's analysis may indicate a brand new product instead. Also, due to Nintendo's ongoing success in sales, Pachter said, "It is clear that Nintendo is executing flawlessly."

The MMO Report: Thursday, July 31st

Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Thursday, July 31, 2008 5:01 PM

We're back in the studio this week, and of course as soon as we start to settle back in, the ground starts moving underneath us. That's a sign that we're doing something right. Or terribly wrong. Either way, we're changing things and that's the way Casey likes it!

This week Casey covers the details that have come out of the Wrath of the Lich King beta, discusses the possible release date for Warhammer Online, and gets to finally enjoy the fact that Knights of the Old Republic Online is very real and very much on it's way. In celebration, Casey's throwing himself a birthday party. Attendance is manditory under the rules of G4 employment. So raise your glass to the sky and toast the host who can boast the most...something that rhymes with toast. This is...

The MMO Report.

Posted by John Manalang - Thursday, July 31, 2008 4:41 PM

SCEA Producer Tsubasa Inaba gave us a little peek on their terrifying adventure title, Siren: Blood Curse, a week before it was released. This Sony Computer Entertainment Japan developed game is out now for the Playstation 3.

Siren: Blood Curse features a "Sight-Jack" system that lets players see into the eyes of enemies - if you're daring enough. Don't call this game a Silent Hill mimic, as its gripping 12 dramatic episodes and intuitive archive system puts this as a must-play title for adventure fans.
