Blow the dust off your Simish to English dictionary, The Sims might be going online for a second time. In a recent interview with The Times UK Nancy Smith, the head of EA's Sims division, admitted they would considering bringing the popular game series into the virtual world metaverse.
What's interesting is that neither Nancy Smith nor the person interviewing her mentions the fact that The Sims Online already existed. And was shut down. Multiple times. Then again, who could blame them when online persistent worlds like Second Life continue to grow and expand? The Sims always seemed like the perfect match for a community-based virtual world, so with a new design and better user generated content, it could certainly be a tough competator for Linden Labs' den of iniquity. Plus, being able to furnish your virtual house with furniture from Ikea and dress your character in clothes from H&M, EA could easily support the service with microtransactions. The product integration possibilities are endless!

You gotta appreciate the massive, swinging huevos it takes for THQ to make a video directly comparing Saints Row 2 to Grand Theft Auto IV.
The crime-ridden open world game comes out this fall for the PS3, 360 and PC...hey, just in time for me to be finished with GTA IV!

Reserach firm Strategy Analytics has reported that if current trends continue, a billion people will have registered for virtual worlds in the next 10 years. That includes MMORPGs like World of Warcraft and Maple Story, as well as virtual community portals like Second Life.
Those billion users works out to 22 percent of all internet users taking advantage of broadband connections, which doesn't sound all that far-fetched when you consider that 14 percent of them are already registered in virual worlds. Add that to the 10 million already playing World of Warcraft, and that high water mark seems within reach. One word of advice; watch what you say and do while you're signed in to these metaverses. You never know who's within voicechat earshot.

Shed a tear for the Alltel Wizard and his weirdo Wizard family, they have just been sold into slavery.
Verizon Wireless has agreed to buy one of their competitors, Alltel Wireless, for 29 billion dollars. The deal consists of $5.9 billion in cash and $22.2 billion in debt. Apparently, Wizards like to use their credit cards a lot. The purchase will allow Verizon to offer service in 57 rural markets they previously had no access to, so your uncle Cleetus can give you a ring while he's tillin' the fields.
A memorial service for the Alltel Wizard will be held in the kingdom of Rohan sometime towards the end of the Third Age.
