Sessler's Soapbox: A Konami Conundrum

Posted by Jonathan Hunt - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 5:45 PM

Last Friday, word had spread that Konami was asking reviewers of Metal Gear Solid 4 to avoid mentioning details about the cut scenes in their reviews. It's a common practice for publishers to ask reviewers not to mention story details in their reviews in an attempt to keep the public spoiler free. However, Konami wasn't talking about story details, they didn't want the length of cut scenes mentioned.

As a result, Electronic Gaming Monthly magazine and 1up.com have chosen to not offer a formal review of the game, as they felt an agreement of this sort would compromise their review.

In this week's Sessler's Soapbox, Adam gets to the heart of this story and tries to understand what Konami is asking of reviewers and if agreements such as these make reviews unreliable to the general public.

What do you think? Is it right of Konami to ask game journalists to withhold technical information from their reviews? Check out the video and let us know what you think, or share your thoughts on our forums.

Jack Thompson Walks Out of Own Hearing

Posted by Ty Colfax - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 3:25 PM

Well, Ole Jackie T. walked out of his disbarment hearing today before the proceedings were even finished. Subsequently, the presiding Judge Tunis recommended an "enhanced disbarment." We're not exactly sure what the "enhanced" part adds to the punishment, but we're thinking it involves him turning in his pants AND sock garters.

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 3:08 PM

Rumor of the day: You'll be swinging your whip through a Wii version of Castlevania before too long.

Pure Digital Releasing Smaller Flip Camcorder

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 2:33 PM

Pure Digital, a start-up company that has had success with their Flip Camcorder, will release a smaller version of their popular device.

The original Flip Camcorder is an easy-to-use, four button camcorder that records up to 60 minutes of video. What makes it so popular is that camera's built-in USB plug, which allows users to easily access their video and upload it to YouTube and other sites.

The Flip was so popular, they managed to sell over a million units already. The new device is the Flip Video Mino, which is 20% smaller than the original.

It should be available soon at retailers for $179 MSRP.

Getting video of your friends getting hit in the nards will be easier than ever!
