Radiohead Ditch Pay-What-U-Want Pricing
Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 5:28 PM

Turns out that Radiohead’s pay-what-you-want pricing plan for the original digi release of In Rainbows was just a one-off experiment.
It was a pivotal moment for the music industry which many thought sounded the death knell for recorded music sales, but Radiohead won't be repeating their decision to let fans choose what to pay for their downloads, frontman Thom Yorke told the Hollywood Reporter.
"I think it was a one-off response to a particular situation," leader Thom Yorke told Billboard.com, referring to the state of panic the music business was in at the time (well, they still are…) due to the recent slump in retail sales.

MySpace Adds Karaoke
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 2:49 PM
You know what we were not thinking the other day? "MySpace needs karaoke!" But MySpace will have karaoke anyway.
Our number one friend, MySpace co-founder Tom Anderson, said "It is in part because music is so popular on our site...but also because karaoke is such a fun and social thing, which is what we're about too. It's not as much fun to go to karaoke alone, but when you do it through the Internet or on your MySpace page, then you can share it with people."
Here's the link, should you want to share your singing on the internet fake-friend site!
And yes. It's just as annoying as you'd think.

Roger Waters Seeking Lost Pig
Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 2:32 PM
Former Pink Floyd leader Roger Waters is asking fans to help him find his pig.
No, not some farm animal that ran away, but the giant inflatable pig got untied and floated away during his headlining set last Sunday night at Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival.
Coachella promoters are offering a $10,000 and four lifetime festival tickets in exchange for the safe return of the two-story swine, which featured slogans like "Don't Be Led To The Slaughter" and "Obama" next to a check mark emblazoned upon it.
Anyone with information about the pig’s whereabouts can contact festival organizers at lostpig@coachella.com.
Oh, and reports of Rosie O'Donnell disappearance are greatly exaggerated….

Is A 'GTA IV' Shortage Coming?
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 1:31 PM

Retailers all over the country are gearing up for a storm of epic proportions. The word is, when people leave work tonight and head down to their local indy game store for their copy of Grand Theft Auto, they might be out of luck, as the game has the potential to sell out.
"It'll be complete mayhem after work gets out," a manager with independent Ind.-based retailer McVan's Video Games told Next Generation. The associate said that the game is "guaranteed" to sell out by days-end on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
While most big box, chain stores are reporting they'll have ample supplies, the demand may even exhaust their stocks. We won't know until work is out and the numbers are in.
Most retailers are reporting that the 360 version of the game is outselling the PlayStation 3 version as well.

'Duke Nukem Forever' Still On The Way
Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 12:50 PM

Yeah, we know it's been a long time since you heard anything about Duke Nukem Forever, the sequel that's been in development since the Warren G. Harding Teapot Dome scandal, but we have news. And the news is...it's still coming. But now, there are some playable parts, and it's exactly as promised.
The people at Shacknews were able to get their hands on the game, and there was actually some progress and playability to it, which is certainly farther along than we've seen to this point, but could mean that the game is still as many as 25 years away. We're not holding our breath.

Those two beauties (?) above are FC Mobiles. They allow you to play original Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges in your pocket. How awesome is that?
Ready to get your retro game on? Two versions of the system (one in black/silver and another in red/white) have recently started to pop up over on eBay for around $40 to $50 bucks.

Aerosmith Exclusive To 'Guitar Hero'
Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:30 AM
Aerosmith has chosen sides in the great videogame rock emulator war of 2008, and fans of Rock Band are likely not to be happy about it. Seems that the seminal Boston band have chosen to throw their weight behind the Guitar Hero franchise, hot on the heels of their GH: Aerosmith entry, the band say that they will be exclusive to that franchise going forward.
So, Rock Band fans, you're going to have to be content with "Train Kept A'Rollin'" when it comes to your Aero content. We think this is a lame move on their part, but also betting that they took a lot of money to make that move, so it might be the best they could make. In the meantime, we'll just keep playing all of Screaming For Vengeance.

'GTA IV' Kiboshes XBLA This Week
Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:12 AM

Thanks, Grand Theft Auto IV...thanks a whole lot. Because, thanks to you, I won't be getting any sort of XBox Live Arcade update this week. Yes, I know you have released a game that is going to be months worth of joy for me and my friends, and I know that I couldn't possibly have time to play anything else this week, but, now, there will be no Bubble Bobble or Popeye: The Game to look forward to.
How do you live with yourselves, you charlatans?
Obviously, you think you can lazily take the week off, just because what is likely to be the biggest game of...well...ever is coming out for your console this week. Do you take meals off from feeding the elderly, too, on the day after Thanksgiving? We thought so.

G4's New Show Dares You To Not 'Hurl!'
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:11 AM
Hurl!, G4's new show designed to make you laugh until you puke, will debut this summer, proving that it's never not funny to watch someone lose their lunch.
So what exactly is Hurl! you ask? Well, picture a large party in a parking lot after dark. Stay with me. Said party is focused around five contestants, attempting to prove their iron stomach prowess. These five warriors must each eat large amounts of a specific staple American food like Chicken Pot Pie or Mac and Cheese or Chili Dogs in a short period of time. The contestants that ate the most food and didn't regurgitate will then move on to a physical challenge. And no, I'm not talking about climbing a rock wall. I'm talking about nausea-enducing feats of bravery like strapping into a gyroscope or sitting down for a particularly sadistic tea-cup ride. I think you're starting to get the idea.
After that round, anyone who hasn't lost their lunch will then be forced to eat MORE, different food--Ambrosia salad, pumpkin pie, etc,-- while still keeping it all in. Then, the final elimination round steps the physical challenge up a notch, tossing in a rogue element of danger. One can only imagine. Hurl!'s release date hasn't been announced yet, but TheFeed predicts that sometime this summer you will be laying down friendly bets over a few beers with your peer group while watching men of similar age and background spew on national television. You're welcome.

Surprise: Jack Thompson Hates 'GTA IV'
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 11:10 AM
Here's a shocker for you: It looks like famous attorney (and TV videogame expert!) Jack Thompson hates Grand Theft Auto IV, so much so that he thinks those responsible for the game should be arrested in real jail for pretend crimes. He wrote this to his local US Attorney:
Indictments should be returned against Take Two corporately and its Chairman, Strauss Zelnick, along with other Take Two officers. Indictment should also be against Sony and Microsoft which are making this pornographic game available to minors, and openly so, on their PS3 and Xbox systems.
Further, indictments should be handed down against Wal-Mart, Best Buy, GameStop, and all other retailers distributing this game to minors at their retail stores, openly, to kids who are only seventeen.
And then the kicker:
Grand Theft Auto IV is the gravest assault upon children in this country since polio.
Hey, Jack, you know who else had polio?

Get Some 'Dead Space' Shwag
Posted by Ty Colfax - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 10:44 AM

Dead Space looks like it might be pretty sweet, and if you want to get an early peek at the Dead Space comic and a free poster, pre-order the PC version of Mass Effect through the EA site. Ok, so it's a little weird that the incentive to pre-order a game gets you shwag for a different game but its better than nothing.
And if you want even better than nothing, you can $10 off for pre-ordering through your local PC dealer. That's PC dealer, not PCP dealer -- significant difference.

First GTA 4 Stabbing!
Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 10:40 AM
A British chap was knifed in front of a line of up to a hundred people waiting to buy Grand Theft Auto IV last night.
The stabbing took place outside the Gamestation store in Croydon. Police said the 23-year-old victim was walking past the crowd when he was stabbed several times by a hooded gent who appeared to be waiting in line.
The suspect is described as being a light skinned black man aged about 21, 6ft 5ins tall, of medium build wearing a light grey hooded top.
"[We] believe there were in the region of 50 to 100 people in the queue,” says a copper. "We are sure many of them will have seen what happened."

EA, Take-Two Meeting Coming?
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 29, 2008 10:40 AM
Grand Theft Auto IV is in the process of breaking all videogame sales records, but there's still the issue of the Electronic Arts purchase of Take Two, the game's publisher. EA has made it clear that their offer for the company still stands, and that they are after more than just GTA IV.
"We believe our offer is based on the long-term valuation of the people and franchises that make up the TTWO - not a one-time event within an important franchise," EA's Mariam Sughayer said. "In addition — we believe that TTWO's price prior to our offer already reflected that this would be a global blockbuster - the stock was trading at approximately $17."
Take-Two has said it wouldn't meet with EA until after GTA IV launches; so look for a head-to-head between the two companies soon.
