'Robosapien' Movie Inexplicably Exists

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 3:47 PM

As you know, TheFeed takes the Robot Uprising very seriously, but we've discovered a last hope for mankind: The Robosapien movie.

In Robosapien: Rebooted. Bobby Coleman plays a boy who befriends a robot on the run from malevolent corporate interests. It has begun filming in New Orleans.

We're hoping human distaste at this movie rallies the cause of humanity around destorying our robot overlords.

EA Employees Don't Hate Their Jobs Anymore

Posted by Ty Colfax - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 3:34 PM

Internal survey results from GameDaily report that Electronic Arts has upped its employee satisfaction levels by leaps and bounds compared to just a few years ago. Apparently, communication between the pee-ons and the exec-types has increased such that the plebes aren't working in a vacuum and have a better idea of what the overall goals are.

What will this mean for their games? Had to say. The whip-cracking totalitarian regime of yore seemed to produce some pretty good games and if everyone is sitting around drinking milkshakes and foosballing, it could mean bad things for your Maddens, your Sims, and your Mass Effects.

'Games For Windows' Goes Online-Only

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 3:00 PM

In the latest in a long series of proofs that print is dead, Ziff Davis revealed today that Games for Windows magazine is going online-only.

"Essential advertising dollars needed to sustain a PC gaming magazine are moving online at an alarming pace," 1UP Network content VP Simon Cox said. "Much faster, it seems, than in the console world. Fast enough that we realized - and Microsoft agreed- that it was time to put the GFW team's efforts where the most people could see the results: Online."

The April/May issue of GFW will be the final print issue, but the reporting will be folded into 1up.com.

'Assassin's Creed' PC Has Gone Gold

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 1:53 PM

The PC version of Assassin's Creed is available now, and boasts features not present in the console versions of the game. PC players will experience four brand-new types of investigation missions, providing "even more ways for players to explore the various locations of the Third Crusade."

The four new investigation missions are an addition to the five original ones found in the console version; meaning, players will never have to complete the same (investigation) mission twice before moving on to assassinate their next target.

'Mass Effect' PC Delayed

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 1:22 PM

The PC version of Mass Effect has been delayed. Sorry, everybody.

The space-RPG saga won't be coming to your personal computer until May 28th. Accoridng to Bioware on the developer's forum:

"The team here at BioWare, working closely with the good folks at Demiurge Studios, has decided that a few more weeks in the studio will ensure we deliver the quality that our fans deserve. The additional time will allow us to incorporate more play-testing feedback, add extra polish and tune the additional features so that Mass Effect is a natural and outstanding PC gaming experience."

'CoD4' Variety Pack: "Chinatown" Gameplay

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 12:18 PM

First up in the Call of Duty 4 Variety Map Pack is "Chinatown". This map is a remake of CoD classic "Carentan", but sports a modern look for CoD4's setting.

Full of close buildings (shotgun time!) and a lot of 2nd floor windows (perfect for camping) this map can get pretty hectic. Team Deathmatch and Objective game types work well.

Check out the video with some Team Deathmatch gameplay. I was only using Martyrdom because I was working on the challenge... honest.

Fighting! In Space!

Posted by Blair Herter - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 11:25 AM

Sins of a Solar Empire publisher Stardock announced today that Twilight of the Arnor--the last expansion pack for indie hit and critical darling Galactic Civilizations II--is "right around the corner" (in PR-speak that puts the release date somewhere between tomorrow and 2021 but we think it'll be sooner rather than later).  Hit the banner for the screenshots and head to the company's Web site for all things Twilighty.  Also, I've decided that the "Care Bear Stare" is the ultimate finishing move.  What do these two things have in common you ask?

Nothing.

EA Licenses 'Unreal Engine 3' for 5+ Games

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 11:06 AM

Who loves Unreal Engine 3? EA does! You better love it too because it's going to be dominating gaming for a few years. Everyone is using it (except Too Human) and EA has just expanded their licensing agreement with Epic.

The original agreement between EA and Epic for UE3 was signed in 2006, but will now cover over 5 games in development.

Recent releases from EA using the engine were Army of Two and Medal of Honor Airborne. How long before EA tries to buy Epic? We're guessing 1-2 months before Gears of War 2 releases.

Press release after the break.

Freestyle 101: Ice-T

Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 10:58 AM

For me, filming a Freestyle 101 with the mighty Ice-T was like jamming with Miles Davis, riffing with Jimi Hendrix or crooning with Frank Sinatra. The man is a master of his craft, one of the most influential MCs in the game, fronted one of the best (and first) rap-metal bands ever, is a terrific actor, and is a true original.

Yes, Ice-T is a legend, straight up. He also happens to be one of the reasons I got into rap music. The day I heard the gangland murder-spree of “Colors” I was hooked. By the time I got to classic albums like Power, Iceberg/Freedom of Speech and O.G. Original Gangster, I had been sworn in for life.

Yet it’s too easy to classify Ice-T as simply a great gangsta rapper. Sure, he practically invented the style with early cuts like “6 ‘N Da Mornin’” and the aforementioned “Colors,” but along with Public Enemy he also ushered in politics in rap, infusing a strong political and social consciousness into hip hop. His book, The Ice Opinion, is a must read if you want to hear about how politics and rap bang heads, and his speeches as  a TV correspondent and on the lecture circuit are educated, thought provoking and inspirational. That he took his career as America’s favorite “Cop Killer” and turned it into a respectable career playing a police detective in everything from New Jack City to TV’s Law & Order Special Victims Unit is downright astounding.

'Mass Effect' PC Gets Tactical HUD

Posted by Brian Leahy - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 10:48 AM

Mass Effect is set to hit the PC in May, but it won't just be a straight port. The game will feature improved graphics (and hopefully less texture pop-in) and some added features.

Just announced today is the new Tactical HUD.

"The new HUD allows players to access the Individual Squad Command, Biotics powers and Abilities and Weapons command interfaces all in one screen, and can be accessed simply by pressing the space bar. The new Tactical HUD makes executing a variety of important commands a very natural and quick experience so players can get back into the action."

Looks pretty good to us. What do you think?

UPDATE: Check out the new HUD in our screenshot gallery.

Tide May be Turning on Internet Freedom

Posted by Ty Colfax - Tuesday, April 08, 2008 10:47 AM

Ever since 1996, web sites have enjoyed a certain amount of legal immunity when it comes to what users post. Generally speaking, a site like YouTube or MySpace is not liable for anything a user decides to put up. Responsibility for this content usually falls to the user.

That tide may be turning though, with some recent court decisions that shift the responsibility onto the site administrators and to the service providers. If this trend continues we'll find a much tighter internet, where mainstream sites are afraid to let their users run free. It is TheFeed's official stance that in this wide open space of the internet, the user is responsible for themselves and their actions. Passing b
