Jane Fonda's Sailor Mouth

Posted by Ty Colfax - Thursday, February 14, 2008 3:58 PM

My goodness graciousnesses. a 70-year-old Miss Jane Fonda dropped the c-bomb on the Today Show… well, earlier today. She was asked about her involvement in a recent production of Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues. The producers of the play wanted her to do the monologue called "(c-bomb)" and she turned it down cuz she from da south and ain't heared of it.

But don't worry, later in the show, host Meredith Vieira apologized for Fonda's "c" slip and in the rebroadcast versions of the Central, Mountain, and Pacific time zones, NBC covered for it with a still photo of Fonda's face and blank audio. Nice cover. I'm sure that looked REAL natural.

Southern Belle? No.
Man's Lady? You betcha.

Now, I think I might could get fired for linking you to the video of this slip, but trust me, it's out there. At least for now.

You can also watch this which is quite funny and oddly related.

Epic Fail: Ex Girlfriends

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, February 14, 2008 3:24 PM

In past weeks, we've discussed the epic failure of various aspects of videogames, films, television and technology, but today, in honor of St. Valentine's Day, TheFeed will be discussing failures of the heart. Strap in for our list of Epic Failures: Ex Girlfriends...then leave your own terrible dating experience in our comments section!

Bleahy:  Back in college, I had been dating a girl who was generally pretty crazy. Like, if we had a fight she’d get a full on panic attack. Wanting to break up with her, but not wanting to drive her to hurt herself or others, I stayed with her and tried to convince her to get some counseling. She finally saw someone and they put her on some medication. Then I broke up with her. A few days later she came by my house to “give me the things I had at her place”, which ended up being pasta sauce and toilet paper. This is odd, because I wasn’t keeping any sauce or TP at her place. I threw out them out.

Nokia’s N-Gage Goes "User Generated"

Posted by Ty Colfax - Thursday, February 14, 2008 3:15 PM

Nokia has beat Gizmondo to the user-generated handheld gaming punch. The N-Gage is now equipped with Yamake, which allows users to insert pictures, sounds, and other pointless things into mini-games. It sounds like it's more of a user modified version of games we've played a thousand times. The mini game part of it tipped us off to that.

So, instead of playing skeeball with a skeeball, you can use a picture of your head and whenever the ball enters a hole, a fart sound happens. Then a cut-scene of your little cousin throwing cake at your sister plays… WHAT? Why? Is this going to work? Are people actually buying this?

'Halo 3' Valentine's Day Playlist

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, February 14, 2008 2:14 PM

From now until Monday, Halo 3 players will be treated to a Valentine's Day Massacre playlist, which will be a variation of the Team Doubles playlist. You know, for you and that special someone.

The playlist will also help Bungie test out some tournament tracking features they are working on and they say they will be doling out some awards for secret reasons and stats. Their example, which will not be a real one, is a prize for the most vehicle hijacks.

They plan to hold a few tournaments next month through the use of special playlists that will appear during the contests.

Maybe they should send a card to Infinity Ward, though, as CoD4 seems to holding most of Xbox Live's traffic nowadays.

Be Mine, Special Agent Clank!

Posted by Jonathan Hunt - Thursday, February 14, 2008 2:11 PM

So we were planning on spending Valentine's Day like we do most other holidays, wallowing in a pit of loneliness while we jab ourselves with shards of broken dreams and crushed hopes. Yeah, we're festive.

That is, until we received this very special valentine from Sony, including a box of chocolates and a blank card. The chocolates informed us to use the card in order to decipher a secret gift.

After some serious espionage business, we were led to this incredible trailer for Secret Agent Clank, coming soon to the PSP. Check it out below.

USA To Shoot Satellite

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, February 14, 2008 1:34 PM

Sometime in the next 11 days, a Navy cruiser is going to aim a missile just above the atmosphere and hit an out-of-control spy satellite;

Should they fail, the satellite will crash from the heavens onto your head, killing you instantly and releasing poisonous gas into the atmosphere that will destroy us all.

Have a good day.

Oh, the government is saying the gas won't kill us all and there isn't any danger, but I've seen enough movies to know when we're in deep.

Social Networking Invites Getting Annoying?

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, February 14, 2008 11:34 AM

Scientists believe that new social networking sites pop-up at a rate of 1 per day. Friends join these sites and then send their friends invites and inboxes get full of spam.

Heather Kelley, a visiting professor at Carnegie Mellon (go Tartans!), said, "I'm suffering from sheer invite toxicity. Regardless of source, exclusivity or debatable utility of the service, my immediate response to seeing one in my inbox is 'NOT ANOTHER ONE."

Heather's outrage is well founded. We all have friends that like to be on the cutting edge of the social networking trend (it's Twitter, btw) and they can be extremely annoying with invites and messages.

Check out the article at CNET and let us know what social networking sites you belong to? Is MySpace dying?

'Dawn of The Rising Dead?'

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Thursday, February 14, 2008 11:28 AM

Another chapter of the agonizingly slow legal dispute between Capcom and New Line over the similarities (or lack thereof) of Dead Rising to Dawn of the Dead began yesterday.

In a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Capcom says that "humans battling zombies in a shopping mall" is a "wholly unprotectible idea" by copyright standards. Seemingly fearing a lawsuit, Capcom is seeking to stop The MKR Group, which claims to be the exclusive owner of the copyright to Dawn of the Dead original and 2004 remake, from asserting its intellectual property, including copyright and trademark.

We'll let you know what happens, but until then, read the complaint yourself, if you like poring through legal documents.

'Dark Sector' Freaks Aussies Out

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Thursday, February 14, 2008 11:15 AM

Australians aren't notoriously sensitive people, which is why it's strange that they'd be so freaked out by Dark Sector, but, nonetheless, it's happened. The OFLC, the Aussie ratings board, has refused to classify the game, which essentially means that no one will sell it, because of the violence contained therein.

There's your standard blood, but also the removal of limbs, complete with gradual pain involved, and twitching bodies that follow bloody a'splosions, so, yeah, it's going to be a bit of a hot-button issue. The conventional wisdom is that they're going to send the game back for some tweaking, so that they can sell it down under. Oy...

House of the Future is Blast From the Past

Posted by Ty Colfax - Thursday, February 14, 2008 10:51 AM

Back in the 1950s, Disney built a futuristic home in the Tomorrowland section of their park in Anaheim. It was so futuristic, it featured things like microwaves, plastic furniture, and a bubbly X-wing-shaped floorplan. Well, it was torn down in 1967 but now they're looking to revisit the idea of giving park-goers a look into their own domestic futures, with a newly designed $15 million state-of-the-art dwelling.

Part of a domestic partnership between Disney, Microsoft, Hewlett Packard, and LifeWare, the 5,000 sq. ft. home will feature tons of touch screen surfaces and counters that give suggested recipes based on what new groceries you place on them. Mirrored closets will be able to see what you're wearing and suggest complementary outfits or articles of clothing.

But how smart, is too smart? Rumors suggest that the home will also shave you while you sleep, beat your games on expert and veteran levels, and make death threats to neighbors and high-ranking city officials so you don't have to.

Just the right amount of smart.

And hey, this has the word "house" in it and Morgan looks awesome:

News Corp. Courting Yahoo?

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, February 14, 2008 10:33 AM

Word around Wall Street is that Yahoo is in talks with News Corp. for a possible joint venture that would see an incorporation of MySpace and IGN into Yahoo's services and the use of Yahoo's advertising for News Corp. The venture would only give up 20% of Yahoo.

This is way different than Microsoft's proposed buyout, which Yahoo is trying to find alternatives to. If Microsoft ups their bid, they might have no choice but to sell.

The deal might seem better for Yahoo as a business, but it wouldn't result in a large payday for the board of directors like a sale to Microsoft.

Variety: Yahoo in talks with News Corp.

New YouTube Features on the Come Up

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, February 14, 2008 10:22 AM

YouTube is getting ready to roll out some new features and here are the details.

  • Active Sharing - This feature is already on and will show the recently viewed videos of people that are watching the same video as you. Just don't go watching weird stuff if you want internet strangers to know about it.
  • Better video editing tools
  • Video Recommendations - A more passive way to get related videos. Similar to Amazon.com's "Customers Who Bought This Item Also Bought" system.
  • Tracking Tools - More aimed at marketers and content providers, YouTube will help track where the clicks are coming from and more.
  • Tentpole Content Initiatives - Special events to try and draw large audiences.
    • The YouTube Games. A takeoff on the Olympics featuring homemade videos of the “wacky wide world of weird sports.”
    • Living Legends. Videos of living legends like the Rolling Stones.
    • The YouTube Global Gathering. A worldwide event that will be broadcast from multiple locations on YouTube.

The recommendations are cool, but the other features don't really strike us as major additions to the service. At least it's still free.

Posted by Brian Leahy - Thursday, February 14, 2008 9:43 AM

Capcom has revealed another new character for the upcoming Street Fighter IV and his name is Abel, "a man without a past."

He looks like a boxing type character or maybe a soccer hooligan. Expect more info from GDC.

IGN has a few more screenshots to check out.
