'Rock Band' Rumors Addressed Officially
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 4:11 PM

Like Bachman Turner Overdrive, we're taking care of business this afternoon: Rock Band rumor business.
We have the official word on a couple net.leaks from earlier in the week.
- The microphone: Earlier in the week, photos of a Wii-compatible Rock Band standalone microphone appeared on the internet, leading to speculation the game was going Wii. Turns out the microphone is real and says "Wii" on it, but it is not compatible with the Wii version of Rock Band that has been confirmed, but has not been officially announced. Get it?
We talked to a spokesperson for peripheral manufacturer PDP who said: "PDP is an official licensee of Rock Band merchandise which include Rock Band microphones as well as USB Hubs. Our packaging mistakenly states that that the microphone is compatible with the Wii. Unfortunately, this is not the case and will be corrected in future versions of the packaging. We apologize for the confusion."
- The schedule: A scan of Official Xbox magazine that purportedly showed the DLC content for March showed up. It's real, but not definite. A spokesperson from MTV/Harmonix told us: "The calendar of Rock Band DLC for March 2007 printed in the latest issue of OXM is a tentative schedule and subject to change. Please stay tuned for confirmation of Rock Band DLC closer to their release."
So now you know.

New Playstation Home Screens
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, February 01, 2008 3:45 PM

Thanks to some expert sleuthing by Playstation fanboys, we now know that new screens for Home have surfaced on the Japanese Sony website. There's probably some information on the page as well, but none of us speak Japanese...that we know of.
If you want to check out the screenshots for yourself, check out this section on Sony Japan's site. Or if you want to look at the pretty Japanese characters and pretend you know what they say. That's always fun too.

'Halo 3' Adidas Rule
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 3:08 PM

Adidas, the most-dope shoe company since they were made immortal by Run DMC, are cementing their legacy with the above Gilbert Arenas Halo 3 sneakers.
Yeah. We want them too. Arenas, know for cheating at Halo 3, playing great ball, and funding game team The Final Boss, was supposed to wear a pair on the court on February 8th, but he's injured.
The kicks are super-scarce--only 100 pairs globally--so if you need them hit select stores on February 8.

LucasArts Prez Steps Down
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 1:54 PM
Jim Ward, the longtime president of videogame developers LucasArts is leaving the position.
"I am so proud of all people and the work we've done together at LucasArts over the last four years," he wrote. "It's been an incredible experience. Together we've rebooted the company and set LucasArts on a path to even greater success. This is a fantastic team and they are positioned for their best year ever," Ward said in a statement.
LucasArts is looking for a new president (hey, it's could be you!) but until he/she is found Howard Roffman, president of Lucas Licensing, will be stepping in.
This news reportedly won't affect release dates or development of current games, so don't worry, The Force Unleashed is still coming out.

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 12:14 PM
During a conference call with investors yesterday, Electronic Arts touted the success of their skateboarding franchise Skate, saying the game has sold nearly two times the number of copies of the latest Tony Hawk game.
EA's Warren C. Jenson said:
"SKATE, a new and highly rated IP from our Black Box studio, outperformed an entrenched competitor. Despite the fact that we launched on three fewer platforms, we realized a 55% revenue share in North America. On current generation systems, SKATE outsold Tony Hawk nearly 2 to 1."

The MMO Report: Friday, February 1st
Posted by Patrick Roche-Sowa - Friday, February 01, 2008 12:13 PM
This week, we have something very special for all of you.
You see, a horrible plague has fallen upon the offices of G4, as many of you already know. This certain bug happened to infect our glorious leader, and hence rendered Casey unable to fulfill his hosting duties.
But fear not, oh faithful ones, a simple absence won't stop the magic. G4's very own John Walsh thankfully stepped up to the plate and guest hosted the MMO Report for us this week, and are we ever glad he did. While mister Walsh may be the Yin to Casey's Yang, he brings a flavor to this week's report that cannot be put into words. We are quite proud.
So sit back, relax, and enjoy the comedic stylings of one of the funniest people we know. This is...
The MMO Report.
Send all get well cards, love letters, and songs of praise to TheMMOReport@g4tv.com
Discuss John Walsh and all things MMO in our forums.
Check out all the links related to this week's report after the jump.

The series that jumpstarted Clive Barker's horror career is coming to film in what we're hoping will be a promising franchise of flics. The first book and adapted screenplay follows a paranormal investigator who discovers a peculiar spot that turns out to be the intersection of highways transporting souls in the afterlife.
Produced as a joint venture between Matador Pictures and Barker's Midnight Picture Show, Books of Blood has no release date and is still in pre-production.
Also, in Barker news, a new Hellraiser film is stewing in the pot in case you didn't know.

Google Stock Tanks After M'Soft Announcement
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 11:44 AM
The news that Microsoft has made a serious bid to acquire Yahoo is having immediate effect upon Google, the main competitor to the future-search-megalithic of YahooSoft.
While Yahoo!'s stock took off and soared $8.57, or 45%, to $27.76, Google's stocks took an opposite trajectory. After the announcement, it sank $49.77, or 8.8%, to $514.87 on Nasdaq.
Another blow to the googe: Yesterday, the company posted fourth-quarter profit of $1.21 billion, up 17% from the year-earlier period , which sounds good, but actually falls short of analysts' expectations.
Ouch, people.

R.I.P. Hot Bodyguard
Posted by Ty Colfax - Friday, February 01, 2008 10:55 AM
Former model and converted bodyguard Anna Loginova was killed in a carjacking incident Sunday when a gentleman pulled her from a Porsche Cayenne in Moscow. She fought back grabbing the door handle but fatally damaged the ole skull as the car picked up speed and she was forced to let go.
This is sad, it's true. But we can't help but think of how awesome it was that she was first a successful model (see fig. 1) and then ran a company of hot female bodyguards who were highly trained in the martial arts to protect the Russian elite.
So, if you're keeping score, the world is down one hot, ass-kicking model. This is a sad day, indeed.

Microsoft Bids On Yahoo!
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 10:42 AM
In news of internet-shaking proportions, Microsoft has offered $44.6B for Yahoo.
In conference call Friday morning, Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer said, "This is a decision we have -- and I have -- thought long and hard about... We are confident it's the right path for Microsoft and Yahoo."
Right now, Yahoo is considering the offer, and google is shaking in their proverbial boots. If the deal goes down, Microsoft's move toward dominance of the search market on the net would move up a level.

TiVo Could Shut Down Dish Network DVRs
Posted by Brian Leahy - Friday, February 01, 2008 10:17 AM
Looks like the courts of America believe that Dish Network infringed on copyrights held by TiVo in their own DVR systems. The appeals court upheld an earlier decision and this marks the end of the line for Dish (unless the Supreme Court decides to hear the case).
Dish network could be forced to stop selling DVRs and disable all of their existing DVRs, which might lead to a massive exodus of subscribers.
In addition, they owe TiVo something to the tune of $96 million in damages. After that, they could conceviebably pay licensing fees to TiVo to keep using and selling their DVRs.
We're interested to see what happens because Dish Network doesn't have many options.

"It's going to be before the holidays," he told analysts.

'Silent Hill: Origins' Heads To PS2
Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, February 01, 2008 8:12 AM

Don't mothball your PlayStation 2 just yet: Silent Hill: Origins, the survival-horror game originally released on the PSP, is headed over to the ubiquitous last-gen console in May.
"It is fantastic to bring the Silent Hill series back to the format that was so integral to its success,”, said Hans-Joachim Amann, Head of European Product Management for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Silent Hill Origins is a stunning prelude that explains some of the mystery and mythos of the series, and we look forward to inviting Silent Hill’s many fans back to its doom-laden streets.”
