Sega's Ken Ogasawara, localization producer on the upcoming shoot-em-up The Club, stopped by the X-Play offices today to give an exclusive demonstration on how to play the game using "mad skills" as the kids say.

For those of us who have downloaded the demo and proceeded to get owned by the hordes of gun-toting enemies intent on our head, this video will teach us everything we need to know about stringing together combos, finding secret skull shots, and just all-around not sucking. It also gives a glimpse of a character and level not available in the online demo, so keep your eyes peeled.

X-Play also has a hands-on demo on tonight's show; don't miss it.

U.K. PS3ers to Pay More for Their 'Devil May Cry 4'

Posted by Ty Colfax - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 3:30 PM

Xbox 360 users will be paying three-quarter the price of PS3 users for the forthcoming Devil May Cry 4. That's only if you live in the U.K., though. Sources are saying that the 360 version will be 30 pound while the PS3 DMC4 will be 40 pound, which is also above the typical high-profile release price in the U.K.

American retailers are not seeing any discrepancy just yet, and a rep. at Capcom said it was due to each retailer's pricing system and that it's really up to stores what they charge as Capcom doesn't set prices.

Welcome to the world of the real, Nero.

Cooking Mama Sells Over 1.6 Mil.

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 1:04 PM

It's a little hard to believe, but the Cooking Mama francise has sold over 1.6 million units. The original Cooking Mama game for Nintendo DS that launched in September 2006 and has sold more than 1 million units; Cooking Mama: Cook Off for the Wii console that launched in April 2007; and Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends that released pre-holiday in November 2007.

"The success of Cooking Mama has been akin to catching lightning in a bottle," said Jesse Sutton, Chief Executive Officer, Majesco. "A unique concept, iconic main character and gameplay execution that fully utilizes the stylus and Wii Remote™ have proved to be a winning combination. We appreciate the continued support from all of Mama's fans and look forward to launching the fourth title in the franchise later this year."

Your mama has sold over 1.6 of something, but it wasn't games. Hey-oh!

What's Up With Digital TV Conversion?

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 12:45 PM

There's a digital television conversion coming on February 17th, 2009. You already know that, right? Like, the FCC has mandated that networks won't be broadcasting in regular definition anymore after that date. So, it's going to be all HD broadcasting from now on. Now, you know what that means, don't you? No? Well, you're not alone. It's confusing and a lot of people don't know the deal.

First off, you don't have to buy an HD tv, though we're not sure why you wouldn't want to. Still, there will be converter boxes available at the time of the conversion that will allow you to watch the new signal on your plain old TV. And, no matter what anyone else tells you, those converter boxes are free. Yes, you can get a coupon for a free converter from the FCC itself, by going to the conversion site and applying for one.

Ok. Now you know. Don't say we never gave you anything.

360 Arcade To Get "Things On Wheels"

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 12:38 PM

Southpeak games is bringing its Things to the Xbox Live Arcade and PCs in Summer 2008,

Things on Wheels is an arcade title placing players at the helm of radio-controlled cars that race through a gigantic Florida Art Deco house filled with “tracks” comprised of everyday household items.

Interestingly, the game was developed by Load Inc. Ha! I said "load!".

“ToW is what the Xbox LIVE Arcade community has been asking for since day one. It’s a competitive racing game with bits of fun and lots of interactivity if you just want to goof around. After Mad Tracks, we had to concentrate on just racing, but always with a twist,” said Denis Bourdain, big wig at Load Inc.

So, what say you: Is this the kind of game you've been asking for since day one?

'Wolfman' Getting A New Director?

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 12:22 PM

Director Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo) was slated to direct a remake of The Wolfman, but dropped out of the project yesterday, leaving the movie, at least temporarily, without a director. However, some new names are being bandied about in conjunction with the project. What names, you might ask? How about Matt Reeves, director of Cloverfield? And a man named Breck Eisner, who was linked recently to a remake of Creature From the Black Lagoon?

Well, those are interesting theories, but neither of them really appear to hold any water. Why, you might be asking yourself? Well, Reeves is apparently busy with a Cloverfield sequel, and a project with JJ Abrams called The Invisible Woman, Eisner, on the other hand, will be working on Creature for a while. So, who knows? But it's fun to think about things sometimes, isn't it?

Del Toro Talks Lovecraft

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 12:06 PM

While the gothic horror and madness of H.P. Lovecraft makes for great reading, the master of terror, dread, non-Euclidean Geometry, and huge vagina monsters that, were they to be described, would surely drive you mad, has never been served all that well by the movies.

With the exception of Re-Animator (an awesome 1985 adaptation of Herbert West: Reanimator) and The Dunwich Horror (a 1970 psycho-freakout very loosely based on H.P.'s story) Lovecraft movie adaptation have been more-or-less ass.

Guillermo del Toro wants to change the pathetic track record with a big budget version of Lovecraft's immortal At the Mountains of Madness.

“I remember when I was a kid out of the studios came the big event horror movies, ‘The Exorcist,’ ‘Alien,’ ‘Jaws,’ ‘The Shining,’” del Toro told MTV.com. “It is my hope that this movie will be a tentpole movie [of that sort]. It has the scope of a Shackleton epic exploration movie but it’s full of tentacled things.”

We can't wait.

Dell Shuts Down Mall Kiosks

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 11:42 AM

With Dell making a push into retail stores, they are shutting down their mall kiosk program. Like loitering teens, they are being kicked right out of the mall.

With all 140 of the kiosks are shut down, this leaves at least 140 high school kids out of work and kills their dreams of buying a car before prom. Tough luck, champ. Foot Locker is hiring.

As previously stated, there will be some level of revenue sharing, but it is not yet known what the split will be for application makers.

As we previously stated, expect a lot of the apps to be developed by companies and mainly be advertisements.

Nyko Gets All Cordless on the Wii Nunchuck

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:54 AM

Nyko is already releasing a wireless Nunchuck of their own, but now they will release an adapter that will modify Nintendo's official Nunchuck to be wireless.

The unit wraps the cord up the Nunchuck and fits on the bottom, with another piece fitting into the Wiimote.

Power is supplied by 2 AAA batteries and should last about 60 hours, or so they say.

The accessory should drop in February for $19.99 and then remain useless when Smash Bros. releases in March and no one is using the Wiimote and Nunchuck anymore.

Freddy Krueger Gets A Reboot

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:42 AM

You would think, that by this time, all of the Freddy Krueger story has been told, what with four hundred thousand Nightmare on Elm Street films and all. Well, you'd be half right. It seems as if New Line is going back to the future and taking the Nightmare franchise on a new track, "rebooting" it in much the same way they did with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

So, what does that mean? What it most likely means is that you can expect a "new" "grittier" and more "serious" Nightmare film, and then some dour sequels to finish it off with. Why, just look at the Halloween remake, and you'll get some idea of what you're in for. Oh, and we'd be very surprised to see Robert Englund wearing the claws, but you never know...

'Saw' Videogame On The Way

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:36 AM

You have to hand it to the Saw franchise. Fewer entities make more out of absolutely nothing than they do. First, the four movies that are all relatively successful, and now this, a videogame based on Jigsaw's work, to be developed by Brash Entertainment, presumably for the PS3 and the 360.

The game, which already has a website devoted to it, won't be coming out until October, 2009 (of course...Hallowe'en is Saw time) but we already know it will be using the Unreal Tournament III engine to do its dirty work. We can't begin to speculate on what the game will be about, but we're sure the ESRB is literally drooling to get their hands on this bad boy.

Sony Introduces 1080i Video Conferencing

Posted by Brian Leahy - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:27 AM

Video conferencing is about to make the jump to HD and Sony is going to take you there... if you've got $9000 and someone to conference with who also has $9000 lying around.

But seriously, folks... this is for business users and not the general consumer. At least, for the time being.

The HD video is streamed at 60fps and PC data can be streamed at 30fps. The unit will even allow for a split-screen between video and PC data for thrilling HD-narrated PowerPoint presentations.

The PCS-XG80 will be available in the Spring. One question, Sony: why not 1080p?

'Fatal Frame' For Wii Announced

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Wednesday, January 30, 2008 9:13 AM

Fatal Frame and the Wii go together like chocolate and milk: Pointing a camera with your Wii-mote in a version of this underrated ghost/photography simulator is a fantastic idea for a dark, rainy night, and it's going to happen. In Japan, for sure, and hopefully in America too.
