Van Halen Hall Of Fame: Dave Or Sammy?Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 3:42 PM
Hagar fronted the band from 1986 until 1996, following the tenure of original vocalist Dimaond Dave, who fronted the band from it’s formation in the mid-‘70s until 1985, when he bailed for the solo career. Rumor has it the Hall of Fame is asking the band to perform at the induction with both vocalists, though who knows if the brothers Van Halen will go for it. Especially considering that insiders are saying they are finally ready to reunite with Roth for a summer tour. Also, founding bassist Michael Anthony, who has been a constant in the band until Eddie announced he was being replaced by his son Wolfgang last summer, is also included in the nomination. No word as to whether Anthony will join the band at the ceremony, but my money says Eddie will have none of it. Stay tuned… The ceremony is March 12 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and other acts to be inducted include R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, and The Ronettes.

UK Download FairPosted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 1:52 PM
The first survey that factors in all download sales is now available in the UK. Introduced by compilers the Official U.K. Charts Company, the new chart methodology gave Snow Patrol a top 10 hit with the same song for a second time and also meant that five artists have two singles each in the top 40. The new chart rules are the latest development in the incorporation of digital sales data, which was first computed in April 2005. Introduced by compilers the Official U.K. Charts Company, the new charts gave Snow Patrol a top 10 hit with the same song for a second time and also meant that five artists have two singles each in the top 40, as they don’t just factor those in those tracks in which a physical CD equivalent is available within one week of release. The "one week ahead" law was invented last March and allowed Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" to become the first digital No. 1, topping the chart solely on downloads the week before the CD was released.

Cameron, Shyamalan Get 'Avatars' OnPosted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 12:06 PM
They're saying now that the two directors might end up in a fight to see who gets to use the title. I give Cameron the edge, as his script has been in development for the past decade or so. Also, he has talent and can direct. Shyamalan made Lady In The Water. The Cameron film will be released in 2009. No word on when Night will deliver his film. I think the two directors should merge, and call themself Cameramalan. Rotten Tomatoes.com: James Cameron's "Avatar" On Its Way! Yahoo! News: Shyamalan bringing kids TV show for big screen

Microsoft + AT&T = Xbox 360 IPTVPosted by Eugene Morton - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 11:24 AM
It won’t be like backwards compatibility or firmware upgrades where a simple download will boost the capability of the Xbox. As with the ability to play HD-DVDs on the 360, IPTV is going to require some additional hardware and another, possibly expensive change. In America, Microsoft has chosen to bring IPTV to 360s by partnering exclusively with AT&T, which will soon be offering the Project Lightspeed network, a broadband service with enough bandwidth to stream multiple HD channels simultaneously. This means that gamers are going to have to make AT&T their cable service provider as well as their ISP to gain access to 360 integrated IPTV. In addiction to that, a router with special QoS functionality will be required. Why can’t anything ever be simple or cheap or both? Engadget.com: More details about IPTV on Xbox 360

Microsoft To Add Games To ZunePosted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 11:09 AM
Not to be outdone by Apple's announcement of their new phone, Microsoft is touting the addition of gaming to their Zune machine. Peter Moore, a vice president in the company confirmed the plan yesterday, saying the Zune's large screen will offer a better way to play handheld games. No word yet on what games are coming, but look from them in July of 2008. The move is thought to be an attempt to add features to the Zune to keep it competitive with the dominant handheld media player, the iPod.
