Van Halen Hall Of Fame: Dave Or Sammy?

Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 3:42 PM

Hey, it turns out the second Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar is also being included in the band’s nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Hagar fronted the band from 1986 until 1996, following the tenure of original vocalist Dimaond Dave, who fronted the band from it’s formation in the mid-‘70s until 1985, when he bailed for the solo career.

Rumor has it the Hall of Fame is asking the band to perform at the induction with both vocalists, though who knows if the brothers Van Halen will go for it. Especially considering that insiders are saying they are finally ready to reunite with Roth for a summer tour.

Also, founding bassist Michael Anthony, who has been a constant in the band until Eddie announced he was being replaced by his son Wolfgang last summer, is also included in the nomination. No word as to whether Anthony will join the band at the ceremony, but my money says Eddie will have none of it.

Stay tuned…

The ceremony is March 12 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City and other acts to be inducted include R.E.M., Patti Smith, Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five, and The Ronettes.

Regular television looks like crap on high definition TV sets and so do a lot of cable channels. Not every one, but enough to make you wonder why you bought that huge HDTV in the first place.

Things will get better in 2009 when analog goes the way of 8-tracks, but should the 1080p obsessed be made to suffer till then? "No," says DirecTV!

Today, the digital TV provider announced a slew of premium channels it would begin broadcasting in HD and it’s an impressive list, though it lacks the ultimate premium channel, G4. Look below to see if your high def TV watching future looks any brighter.

Manson Custody Battle...Over Pets?

Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 3:32 PM

The New York Post is reporting that Marilyn Manson and his estranged burlesque dancer wife Dita Von Teese will be entering a custody battle.

But they don’t have kids, you say?

Well, it’s over their pets!

Turns out the couple two dachshunds and several cats, and they are squabbling over who gets what.

When Dita moved out of their home, she took the animals with her, and the shock rocker is reportedly missing wants those cats back, dammit!

"He's not been responsive,” a friend of Von Teese said, She loved him so much, but he has too many demons.”

Gosh, who knew Marilyn Manson had demons?

Actually, the real news here is that Dita’s real name is revealed in the court paperwork.

…wait for it….

CES Report: PNY Ready For Vista

Posted by Dana Vinson - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 2:53 PM

TheFeed's Josh Lawson reports...

Let’s face it, Vista is going to rock your world…only if you have the graphics card to take full advantage of it.

Enter PNY Technologies and their latest line of Verto 6 or 7 series graphics cards.

Making sure that you can squeeze every drop out of Windows Vista’s use of DirectX 9, the new Verto 6 or 7 series will allow you to enhance the visual quality and reduce the strain on your processor with its 256MB of graphics memory.

Having witnessed the full potential of Vista at CES, the drool effect of being able to turn on all of the bells and whistles and sit back while your graphics card takes the full brunt of processing becomes key.

In the end, it only leaves you with more time to watch your mini-windows of porn. Can you ask for something better?

Suzanne Somers: Hot Property

Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 2:30 PM

Three’s Company star Suzanne Somers' home was one of four destroyed by the wind-driven wildfires that are sweeping through Malibu, California.

"My nature is to look at the glass half-full," Somers said in a statement. "I truly believe we will learn something great from this experience."

The 60-year-old and still busty actress and her husband, former game show host Alan Hamel, were out of town when the fire struck their home. A spokesman said the house was a total loss.

UK Download Fair

Posted by Frank Meyer - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 1:52 PM

The first survey that factors in all download sales is now available in the UK.

Introduced by compilers the Official U.K. Charts Company, the new chart methodology gave Snow Patrol a top 10 hit with the same song for a second time and also meant that five artists have two singles each in the top 40.

The new chart rules are the latest development in the incorporation of digital sales data, which was first computed in April 2005. Introduced by compilers the Official U.K. Charts Company, the new charts gave Snow Patrol a top 10 hit with the same song for a second time and also meant that five artists have two singles each in the top 40, as they don’t just factor those in those tracks in which a physical CD equivalent is available within one week of release.

The "one week ahead" law was invented last March and allowed Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" to become the first digital No. 1, topping the chart solely on downloads the week before the CD was released.

'Gears of War' Download Problems?

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 12:40 PM

The internets' forums are all abuzz with the word that the much-heralded Gears of War update and extra maps are causing some users constgernation. Here's the problems people have been talking about.

  • The patch is messing with aspect ratio, and resolution across the board.
  • Picture is stretching vertically.
  • Anti-aliasing is spotty, resulting on PS2-style jaggies.
  • Text on scoreboard and HUD runs over itself, as it is compressing a wide image into a narrow SD monitor.

How's it working for you?

Cameron, Shyamalan Get 'Avatars' On

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 12:06 PM

Sometimes, things work serendipitously in the entertainment business. Take the following bit of news, for example. Both James Cameron and M. Night Shyamalan are working on films called Avatar. Cameron's film is about a man who is disabled, and ends up using an avatar to move through the world, while Shyamalan's film is about a 12 year old kid, and is based on a television show.

They're saying now that the two directors might end up in a fight to see who gets to use the title. I give Cameron the edge, as his script has been in development for the past decade or so. Also, he has talent and can direct. Shyamalan made Lady In The Water.

The Cameron film will be released in 2009. No word on when Night will deliver his film. I think the two directors should merge, and call themself Cameramalan.

'Scooby-Doo' Designer Passes Away

Posted by Mike D'Alonzo - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 11:44 AM

Iwao Takamoto was the man who designed the look of Scooby-Doo and characters for The Jetsons, as an artist for Hanna-Barbera. He passed away yesterday, at the age of 81. Takamoto learned how to illustrate while serving time in an internment camp during WWII. That's some hardcore sh*t.

We at TheFeed can only think to bow our heads and say, "Zoinks."

Microsoft + AT&T = Xbox 360 IPTV

Posted by Eugene Morton - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 11:24 AM

Like with most things in life that I want, it turns out that getting IPTV integration for the Xbox 360 is going to be more complicated and costly than initially thought.

It won’t be like backwards compatibility or firmware upgrades where a simple download will boost the capability of the Xbox. As with the ability to play HD-DVDs on the 360, IPTV is going to require some additional hardware and another, possibly expensive change.

In America, Microsoft has chosen to bring IPTV to 360s by partnering exclusively with AT&T, which will soon be offering the Project Lightspeed network, a broadband service with enough bandwidth to stream multiple HD channels simultaneously.

This means that gamers are going to have to make AT&T their cable service provider as well as their ISP to gain access to 360 integrated IPTV. In addiction to that, a router with special QoS functionality will be required. Why can’t anything ever be simple or cheap or both?

Microsoft To Add Games To Zune

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Tuesday, January 09, 2007 11:09 AM

Not to be outdone by Apple's announcement of their new phone, Microsoft is touting the addition of gaming to their Zune machine.

Peter Moore, a vice president in the company confirmed the plan yesterday, saying the Zune's large screen will offer a better way to play handheld games. No word yet on what games are coming, but look from them in July of 2008.

The move is thought to be an attempt to add features to the Zune to keep it competitive with the dominant handheld media player, the iPod.
