Marvel Ultimate Alliance Hands-On

Posted by Stephen Johnson - Friday, October 06, 2006 12:00 PM

The humanitarians at Activision invited G4 (and the rest of the gaming press) to check out their lineup of upcoming videogames this week, on the PS3, The 360 and The Wii. Here’s the word on the first title we played: Marvel Ultimate Alliance, which we checked out on all three systems.

First off, the news for the hardcore gamers: Marvel Ultimate Alliance was running in 1080p on the PlayStation 3, and it was running smoothly and perfectly, so add that to the list of launch titles that’ll take full advantage of the new system’s brawny hardware.

Now on to the nitty-gritty of the game:

Comic fans are in for a definite treat with Marvel Ultimate Alliance. This comic-book centric 3rd-person beat-em-up features over 20 playable characters from the Marvel Universe. We’re talking Spiderman, Captain America, the entire Fantastic Four, Thor, Ghost Rider, etc. etc. etc. The only thing missing is my favorite crime fighter, Black Lightning. (I know he’s DC, but he’s rad.)

Overall, there are 140 Marvel characters in the game (villians, henchmen, etc.) so all your pretend comic book friends will be there.

Team Formation and Role-Playing Elements

The game begins with the formation of your team. Players choose any four Marvel superheroes to battle super evil, so Silver Surfer can mix-it-up alongside Night Crawler, and The Invisible Woman can team up with Wong. Weird combinations of characters are awesome, but more traditional team-ups bring rewards, example: Playing as The Fantastic Four brings you bonus to your resistance.

MUA also features light role-playing elements: in game power-ups bring points that can be spread over a hero’s stats. We didn’t have enough time to really delve into the points system, but it cursory look made it seem very user-friendly. A nice balance between a customized stat system without having it to get all bogged down. On to the gameplay:

Controls

The game allows for full co-op of every mission, so friends can just jump on fight evil for a minute, and then hop off to eat a Hot Pocket. Unplayed heroes are taken over by the computer, and its AI seems pretty standard from our limited play-time. They don’t do anything dumb, but don’t do anything super-awesome either. About how you want your non-player allies to act.

The basic fighting controls were intuitive as possible: One button punches another button jumps, etc.

Jumping and punching are fine, but the most compelling aspect of playing as a superhero, of course, is the super-powers. Each individual hero has unique attacks based on their character, so Spidey slings webs, Captain America throws his shield, Invisible Woman turns invisible, etc. Flying characters can fly, but I'm not sure how that even helps, alas, I didnt' have enough time to really get into the game's details. But the controls are intuitive as hell.

As expected, the Wii version uses their unique controller to its fullest advantage, allowing you to toss enemies with a flick of the wrist.

The PS3 version also took advantage of the Sixaxis controller's motion-sensing as well: Nere-do-wells grabbed by a hero can be flicked aside with a simple tilt of the controller. I gotta be honest though, I did it couple of times, thought "oh, this is kind of neat," and then immediately reverted to the control sticks. At least in this case, on both the Wii and the PS3, my initial impression is that the controller tilt feels a little…well…gimmicky. Or maybe I’m just not used to it. Time will tell.

In any case, most (but not all) of the games actions on the Wii and the PS3 are able to be completed with more standard joysticking.

Camera controls are floating and adjustable, although we really didn't need to adjust things very often.

Levels

The first level we checked out involved a battle on a massive metal ship hovering over a city.  Enemy dudes swarm the four fighters, who beat them up with punches and super-power attacks. The levels seem to work pretty much as you’d expect a 3rd-person platformers level to work. Beat up guys, open doors, go on to the end of the map.

Some interesting variations on the theme: The Arcade level we played featured our team trapped in a gigantic pinball machine, fighting evil clowns and doubles of themselves. Very fun, frantic level with flippers and pinball bumpers adding to the chaos.

We tried out a boss battle with Marvel’s Ymir, a huge ice giant kind of thing, and the game got a little wonky from here. The camera fixes, and, after grabbing Ymir’s ice spear, and jamming him with it, the mechanics of the game change. It becomes a mini-game of climbing up the giant and…doing something that kills him. I’m not sure what, because I didn’t  complete it. Damn!

System Comparison

Okay, I know the PS3 version was running at 1080p, and I should be really impressed by that, but after a side-by-side comparison of the game on the PS3 and the 360 and identical high def TVs, I thought the 360 version looked better. Marginally better, but still better.

The colors were more dynamic on the 360, and the images sharper somehow. But in any case, you will not be disappointed with the graphics of the game, it looks much better than it even needs to…until you play it on the Wii.

After sitting down with the game on the two top end systems, and then Wii-ing it up, the Wii’s graphical limitations are impossible to ignore.  I was honestly surprised at how rudimentary and old-school the graphics looked.  G4’s Jess Reed, my game playing pal, said: “It feels a little like playing on an N64,” and it does… which is fine for a comic-book style beat-em-up-- I’m playing this to throws some baddies around more than look at great art—but for other kinds of games, it might be a problem. Much like everyone has been saying, the Wii is all about the controls.

Overall

We really enjoyed this title. Activision had to all but pry me off the controllers of this game, but there are two kinds of people will absolutely need to have this title: Marvel fans (natch) and gamers looking for a simple-to-learn, but challenging beat-em-up to play with their friends. The co-op mode rules.

The game ships on November 1st.

Jess Reed says:

Don’t let Steve Johnson be on your Marvel team because he will just fly around and think it’s absolutely hilarious. Regardless, co-op is always the most enjoyable way to play, except the Wii-ers will be left without online play.

Activision is promising to feature over 140 Marvel characters and over 25 hours of gameplay and since I am secretly in love with boosting my 360 gamerscore I checked Marvel Ultimate Alliance achievement points. Players who join a co-op game in progress will still be allowed to earn achievements that the team earns!  I don’t know how this will work, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed about earning some cheap-ass achievements from poaching off someone else’s game.

We only got to check out one boss battle, but as Steve explains it didn’t execute as well as we had hoped.  The gameplay and camera get all wonky, and for some reason I found myself as Wolverine getting all Shadow of Colossus on a big snow guy, and not in a good way.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance squeezes in enough Marvel goodness to make any fanboy excited, but this isn’t the game to make you run out and get a PS3.  Or a Wii.

"Graphically, the PlayStation 3 version looked the best of the three and sported some interesting distortion and blur effects that were absent from the Xbox 360 and Wii versions. Powerful attacks on the PS3 caused ripples of invisible energy to distort the area around the attack momentarily. When asked why this was absent from the 360 version, a developer told us that it was due to the PS3’s ability to handle shaders differently than what can be done on the 360 or Wii. Both the 360 and PS3 versions made use of impressive lighting techniques, particle effects, hi-res textures, and impressive character models while the Wii looks to be a mild step up from the current-gen efforts; though that is certainly to be expected at this point. (cont) Also, the PlayStation 3 version of the game was shown running in 1080p, which looked absolutely incredible and sharp while the Xbox 360 was running at a respectable 720p and the Wii version running at 480p. All three versions supported 16:9 widescreen modes." -----------there's a quote I picked up from my favorite forum. It's good to see people aren't giving up on the PS3's hardware. Some game developers are actually using it's power, and not just throwing out the best the 360 can do--making the ps3 version look not-so-600-dollars-worthy. Well, 500, if you're me.. (*doesn't need the premium to play great games.) =) The sonic game coming out soon is said to also look a lot better on the ps3, than the 360--not just slightly better, like the lot of the 3rd party games.

Okay, so I finally read all of this, and wasn't very suprised when I read about sjohnson's graphical comparison. The subconcious mind is a wonderful thing, when you always root for the 360. But, let's not let the fanboyism swift past what others have been saying. The game does sound fun, and even though it's multiplatforming, it would sell a console to me, should I not have one by the time it comes out. I thought that only Sega Genisis had good superhero games, but I guess not. I can't wait for this one. I'll pass on the wii version, though. The wii is for minigames, while the 360 and ps3 are for this kind of heavy gaming. Like they said, after this next gen, the wii will not emit much eye candy, and that's a shame. I have a feeling I'll buy one, and never use it. But hey, don't let my preconcieved thoughts hit you hard. The wii may be as addictive as the other consoles. But then again, maybe not.

Posted by sjohnson - Friday, October 06, 2006 4:32 PM
Dude, I don't "root" for any game system. After looking at the two systems side-by-side, I thought the 360 looked a tad better. That's all. I wasn't doing a scientific study or anything. Just a quick impression.

Posted by soul_sama - Friday, October 06, 2006 4:54 PM
Okay, /dude/. Technically there was a difference between the two, not in the 360's favor (resolution, and effects). Rooting for something or not, I've been emailing you some news, and I don't see any of it taken into account. 200 GB blue ray disks. PSP + PS3 broadcasting. Etc etc etc. Yes even some bad news about the ps3, but none of which was put up--as if you found the time to put more pointless bad news up, right? Oh, and just so you know, the AI on Assasin's Creed isn't better on the 360. The 360 just needed a little more help to be at par with the PS3 version. Check the feedtips email, and you'll find some interesting stuff, /dude/.

Wii looking like N64 graphically? Are you kidding? I know the capability of the Wii isnt as much as the 360 and PS3, but its not only stronger than Gamecube, its stronger than the Xbox. Dont you think comparing it to the N64 is a bit much? Also i've see screenshots of Ultimate Alliance on the Wii, and they actually look pretty good. Dont overexaggerate so much on the Wii's graphical abilities (or lack thereof).

Wow for someone complaining about another person being a "fanboy" you sure cry alot about the injustice sony is receiving. Wait a sec!! Doesn't THAT make YOU a FANBOY?!?!? $0.02

For the record that was for soul_sama the PS3 fanboy.

I'd also like to comment and say the Wii comments are pretty weak. I've played the Wii version of Marvel:UA and was insanely fun. Graphics arn't on par like they said, but N64? Common. It looks very good, and to bring Stan Lee into this, he was quoted as saying the Wii version is his favorite of the bunch. Then again, this is G4. Nough Said, ey?

Well the wii does target old people, Raven. Mikeyblaze, the difference between sjohnson and me, is that I'm not giving news to a website, filled with haters, myself included. If I want to show a little fandom, that's fine, but what "I did" was throw out a good old fashion "wtf are you talking about," because it's already been prooven that the ps3 showcases more with the graphics. The PS3 DOES have more, graphically, and controllably, than the xbox 360, in this game (but hey, it's just gimmicks, right?). sjohnson just loves his 360 so much, he blindly stated it looked better than the ps3 version. Slightly better, same thing. That news makes everyone here go, "Well, maybe the 360 is powerfullerz than teh ps3?? OMG, FORUM RUMOR, NOW!"

Posted by soul_sama - Friday, October 06, 2006 8:31 PM
He knows what he's doing, and it's a selfless act of unprofessionalism. Sure, be opinionative, but as I've stated time and time again, what he says he "thinks" he saw, or "thinks" is true, will get all the people here happy and giddy, saying, "Hurray, the ps3 sucks :D We've never played it. :D" Excuse me for trying to put an end to ignorance with facts. If facts make me a fanboy, then f*ck all of you, I'm a fanboy. I'll keep beating my reasoning here as much as I can, until you guys surrender to your fanboyish ways and believe what I type and/or """quote""" are f*cking facts, not just PS3 props. ----*PS, anyone gloating about the wii's graphical preformance is a fool. We've already prooven it's power, and the author of this was only saying it was LIKE going back to N64, after expiriencing these next gen graphics.

Posted by supageckomon - Friday, October 06, 2006 10:18 PM
um, ok.... but how do you r e a l l y feel?

Posted by Andrew_D28 - Friday, October 06, 2006 10:18 PM
Thats still a little much...they could have said "like playing a gamecube games with different controls" or something to that effect if they wanted to emphasis what the wii was capable of graphics wise. I mean jumping back 2 generations is still a bit much, even if they were trying to show how much stronger the other two systems are.

Posted by supageckomon - Friday, October 06, 2006 10:30 PM
Console wars are silly. Buy what you want, play what you want. The "minze better than yourz" taut is so old. What do you get from "bragging" about your systems? Sony, Microsoft, and Nintiendo are not gonna give you any monetary compensation in return. Play your games, get your thrills, then go outside and become reaquainted with the real world. That is until the next great game comes along.

ps3 shall live on ! 360 also has a strong engine but if ya want hd 200 buks plus the 400 ya already payed so it isent that bad

I'm inclined to agree with soul_sama. The thing is, when you're posting comments to an article, you can be as biased as you want to be; that's what the comments portion is there for. But when you're the person writing the article, your views have to be objective. And after reading this article (and a few others), I see a pattern. Soul_sama is right: when you offer opinion as fact, it skews the opinions of the people reading what you wrote. I honestly did want to know which of the consoles the game looked best on, but let's be real. When the PS2 came out, the graphics were awesome. Then, nearly a year later, the XBox came, and the graphics were even better. The reason? Because Microsoft wasn't sitting on their duffs watching the PS2 take over the market going, "Gee, we better make something at least as good as that." They made it better (graphically), because they had the time to. (Cont.)

Posted by jtyson - Saturday, October 07, 2006 8:06 AM
(Cont.) Okay, so if you agree, then you can understand what I'm saying. Facts is facts, and the fact is that, at least graphically, the PS3 is more powerful than the XBox 360. Maybe just barely, maybe by a lot. I don't know, I haven't played it, but like I said, it's a FACT. You can't be subjective about that like you could with, saaaaay, controls. For example, "I felt that the XBox 360 controlls were more natural than PS3". Unfortunate, but valid. When you're comparing graphics, though, just BE HONEST. Especially when I'm reading from other sources that, "yes, the PS3 graphics are slightly more detailed, because the system came out a year after the 360, a-DUH." When it's obvious you have a preference, you lose credibility. Objective people write the article, fanboys comment on it. Not as simple as it sounds... apparently...

Posted by spitfirec4 - Saturday, October 07, 2006 8:23 AM
Ive downloaded gameplay of both versions at an unbiased sight, u might of hvae heard of it, its callen IGN.The ps3 versions shows better graphics and affects than the 360. Im not saying that the 360 version sucks but it cant compare to the ps3 version. You will see that in alot of games, the ps3 is overall a better more efficient game console with blu ray and better graphics

Posted by jtyson - Saturday, October 07, 2006 8:38 AM
On a side note, I just wanted to offer a little food for the old noodle, and you guys tell me if you agree or disagree (just don't go name calling, I've got very gentle feelings). Does this console war remind anybody of the infamous battle between Dreamcast and PS2? Allow me to explain... Sega releases the Dreamcast (although technically speaking, Sega AND Microsoft resleased the Dreamcast. People forget that the Dreamcast was Microsoft's unofficial entry into the biz. But for argument's sake, we'll say Sega). (Cont.)

Posted by jtyson - Saturday, October 07, 2006 8:45 AM
(Cont.) The Dreamcast is, graphically, a monster compared to Playstation and N64. It didn't really catch on at first, but eventually even Eric Cartman wanted one. The whole time, however, there is this looming beast of a system in the midst, named PlayStation 2. Not a lot is known about it, just that it's supposed to be the true "next-gen" console. Rumors start milling about what it can and can't do, and everybody's got something to say, hate it or love it. In the meantime, Dreamcast is still keeping pace and growing a larger fan base. Then people find out how expensive the PS2 is. "$350.00? Are you effin' nuts? I'm not Bill Gates!" and so on. Then people find out that it plays DVDs. "Why don't they just lose the DVD playback so that they can bring the price down? I mean, nobody even buys DVDs!" (and at the time, nobody did.) Then the day comes: PlayStation 2 is released. And the rest is history (R.I.P Dreamcast)...

Posted by jtyson - Saturday, October 07, 2006 8:47 AM
Just some FFT, I may be completely off on this one, so let me know. Oh, and if you hated the Dreamcast and love 360, please just DON'T BOTHER.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Saturday, October 07, 2006 9:03 AM
Intresting JT, your right. The name and shadow that was the playstation 2 was too much. Before it even came out the namebrand os sony and the playstation was huge. Developers knew this and thought the ps3 would kill the dreamcast, even though the dream cast had superior graphics.Because of that they stopped making games for the dreamcast and started for the ps2 which killed the dream cast. It was like a prohecy. I see the same thing happening to the 360. It will die, and microsft might pull out of the games. Sony always pushed the standards for a console by adding extra feautures like dvd and raising the bar to the the next level

I don't oppose biased posting or fanboyism. I just thought it was rather funny someone was crying/whinning/whatever the the author was a Xbox was a fan boy and then proceded with the pro sony fan boy speech. I don't care more than likely I will have all three. (Not buying the PS3 till the price drops though) Just think its funny to A. point out when people do the same thing they berate others for. B Feeding trolls cause if I don't they will starve and PETA might get mad. :)

People didn't we all hear by now the 360 is getting upgraded to 1080p. Microsoft just has money like that. Anyway let's forget about the graphics and worry about how the gameplay is.It could be completely because of the 2 different controllers. I'm not a fanboy till I see all of the consoles results.Let's all forget about last gen and get into next gen. OK Micro and Sony fanboys lets all look at the results.Like games, graphics, and other things. Man I hate when people makes conclusions so fast.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Saturday, October 07, 2006 12:47 PM
The games running for ps3 at tgs are better than what microsoft had at X06, and the ps3 games arnt even out yet, yeah gears of war looks good but so does Lair and Devil may cry. Also for true 1080p gameing u will need a larger disc format, not a 9 gigabyte dvd disc. Sony realizes this and thats why Blu ray is 25 gigabytes of space and storage. Oh and i think microsoft copied sony with there upgrade to 1080p when earlier that year thay said that 1080p is useless and its a waste of time to develop games at.

Posted by soul_sama - Saturday, October 07, 2006 1:54 PM
Wow, the level of intellegence suddenly went up around here, but I have to say this: Bigdev, don't bring up irrelevant facts. Yes, the 360 can play 1080p games, for $200 extra--but with all the xbots whining about the price, I don't think any respectable fan would commit to buying the addon without agreeing that maybe the ps3 isn't so pricey. Actually, the ps3 can play 1080p games for $500, at launch. So, uh, which is the better buy? Yeah. That's what I thought.

Posted by soul_sama - Saturday, October 07, 2006 2:00 PM
Anyways, Spirfire, I believe the HD DVD addon for the 360 can hold 30GB's of space, total, which is more space than what Resistance Fall of Man takes up (22GB). So 1080p games can be done with the addon (that the system can hadle that much, remains to be seen). I have a rebuttle for this too, of course. Bluray systems can read up to 200 GB's of space. I think the HD DVD just crapped itself over that one :) It isn't next gen until someone goes, "WOW," and I'm sorry for using my right to be a fanboy (glares at Mikeyblaze0709), but Sony's has given me a lot of Wow's. Point being, it's shocked me more than any other company, and for that, I've rooted for them since. People here now say: "Wow, Soul actually has solid reasons for being a sony fan?" Yes, as a matter of f*cking fact, I do :]

Posted by soul_sama - Saturday, October 07, 2006 2:07 PM
Not to end my little speach here on a spiteful note, but I have something to say to an ole chum, named Mikeyblaze0709. What I did here was report some news (in other places I did show my fanboyish side, proudly at that). What I'm not doing is: "giving news to all you haters, and just feeding you the dose of sony bullsh*t you need, to keep faith in the xbox 360," ok? I'm glad I cleared that up for you, my little chum. It's not called being a hypocrit when you say the president says dumb things right? You can say dumb things, but it won't effect a lot of people. I'm trying to prevent these little sways of judgment, by objecting, and even feeding you a little extra news, left out of this post (the resolution of the games, and such. You can find it in my first couple of comments). Basically put: I refuse to stand by and watch a leading figure throw a tourch at the ps3, while everyone here rejoices with their internet buds, singing kumbaiya (sp?). Got it?

Posted by Bigdev - Saturday, October 07, 2006 2:18 PM
Didn't I tell u Soul this is next gen not last gen.In next gen Sony gave some good news but mostly bad.See u still live in the past get with the present. While Sony and Micro is brainwashing u at least some of us are looking at facts. U to Spitfire and u know! X06 was better then TGS and that was Sony's own time to shine. Console Wars start right after the Wii comes out. So in the mean time u go find some facts, get information and bring it here. People get with the times!

Posted by spitfirec4 - Saturday, October 07, 2006 2:53 PM
Soul, the discs are 9 gigs if they make 1080p games. So if they make 1080p games actually good with all the high definition content then u would have to pay an extra 200 for the hd drive. They would have to change the format of the disc, they cant do that because then people who dont buy a hd-dvd drive wont be able to play the games. but why because for the same price u can get a ps3.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Saturday, October 07, 2006 2:58 PM
Bigdev, the only thing that was good at X06 was gears of war and a couple of halo announcements. At tgs sony had games like dmc 4, loair which looks stunning, resistane looks better and sexier than ever before. Motorstorm is lokking quite beatiful and to top it all off, they had new showings of metal gear solid. The games for the ps3 are not even running at 100%, yet they look better than current 360 games. The controller works really good with games like lair and warhawk. Also to all of u who claim sony copied the wii with the controller, tell me why the wii controller uses bluetooth, sony said that they would use that long before the wii controller was announced. This message brought to u by spitfirec4

Posted by jtyson - Saturday, October 07, 2006 3:47 PM
Time for a comparison, everybody! Let's see... hmmmm... good news, good news... oh, I know! Um, Sony is releasing a new console that a) has been eagerly awaited by any gamer with a pulse, b) is more powerful than any other console in virtually every category, and c) can do just about everything but your laundry (you would never see it posted here, but I emplore all of you to go to gametrailers.com and check out the navigation system for the PS3). (Cont.)

Posted by jtyson - Saturday, October 07, 2006 3:49 PM
(Cont.) It plays hi-def movies right out of the box, can use the same hefty medium (50 Gb per disc) to play games in hi def, and has a tier of online subscription that lets you play online for FREE (that's $0.00 for you "numbers" guys). It comes with built-in wi-fi (no accessories, fellas!), bluetooth wireless technology (which may or may not be used to transfer data), and is very aesthetically pleasing (that means it's purty). Oh, and comes with a hard drive, whether you get the $500 or $600 versions. I'm sure I didn't include everything (feel free to add more), but that's the bulk of it. Okay, so now the BAD NEWS: it's kind of pricey if you want a machine that is strictly a game console, the controllers don't (as of yet) have vibration feedback, and there may not be enough for everybody when it comes out... yeah, count me out. I want nothing to do with that train wreck.

Posted by soul_sama - Saturday, October 07, 2006 5:21 PM
lol, same things people complain about, about the ps3. "PRICEY!" "VIBRATION!!" And that's it XD What else is bad about the ps3? --oh, crap. Online isn't established yet: yeah, so that gives reason for people to say it sucks. Lol, if you've never expirienced online play for the ps3, then don't talk shit guys =P I hear things about Xbox live lagging, ALL the time. Just because it's the first and pretty much only popular online service out (minus computers), does not mean it's the best. Other than that, the ps3 has been sucking up 360 exclusives. It may actually take gears of war, because that company doesn't belong to M$. The people making Resistance are exclusive to sony, though :) But really, the 360 has a lot more going wrong with it than the ps3. The ps3 is just getting bad media because that's what the people who wasted their money on a 360 want to hear :) Oh, and jtyson, I beleive the 360 has more memory than the ps3, but that's all.

If thats the case then why make your posts in a manner that can only be described as passive aggressively hostile and then cry when the Xbox fanboys jump on your case? Like I said I dont which system is best they all have different approaches and marketing tact and demographics they are appealing to. However do you really have write your posts in a way where it sounds like you are a hairs breath away from talking about someones mom because they expressed THEIR opinion on what system they back. See that's why I like being like the swiss!

Oh BTW Since my spelling was attrocious last post I KNOW my friend soul will attempt to insult it, I want to ask a serious question. Why is it that the "level of intelligence" only "suddenly went up" When someone says something nice about sony? If I didn't know anybetter I would take a tiny step be at the conclusion that you believe everyone not a sony fanboy is a *insert your preffered derogatory remark here* Is that what you really think? my previous spelling not to be entered as evidence I like to think I am pretty smart.

Posted by soul_sama - Saturday, October 07, 2006 6:12 PM
A) I didn't notice the spelling mistakes. B) the graphics and stuff were mentioned and everyone, including yourself, was talking very properly. The fact that a bunch of xbox fanboys were absent helped. I could live without "PS3 SUCKS, BYE!" It's happened before. And I write these things long and angrily because I can't sum up what I say to small doses, and I'm angry at the people here :) I'm not here to make friends, mikey. I'll be blunt about facts and my opinions, until I get sick of it. Plus I usually have 3 or 4 people to reply to at once, because obviously everyone hates a contreversial opinion every now and then, so they disagree with what I have to say. And if they can't disagree with anything, they just call me a fanboy and leave.

It's drunk and I'm late, but I just want to say how nice it is to see this kind of activity on these forums. Doesn't matter what you think, just as long as you're posting it.

"It's drunk and I'm late," lmao... if you have a myspace, put that as your headline. Personally I think what I'm posting here is blunt, and rude, but just because the extreme wii and xbox fans (the people who like nothing but those systems/the wii60 fans. Sorry, you tikes are the worst) outnumber me, doesn't mean I have to comment to make them happy. I've never bowed down to anyone because of their preferences, so why would I do it on the internet with strangers? I'll get in comments that'll satasfy myself--f*ck everyone else's fantasy needs.

For the record, spitfire, I checked IGN, and I went to the same exact picture's in the PS3 and 360 versions of this game, and they are exactly the same. They both look like their from from the 360, because each are shown at 720p, and it's already been confirmed that the ps3 version will be at 1080p. So, what you saw at IGN will only get better for the PS3 version. Disclaimer: sorry, haters, but the pictures are 720p, and the ps3 is being rendered at 1080p. My appologised if I hit anyones nerve with some facts. Lol, not.

When all is said and done, it all comes down to games and gameplay. Graphics or not, crappy games that look good are still crappy games. Besides, some developers only make games for single systems. Halo for xbox, Final Fantasy for playstation, . . . you get the picture. . .

As for the bias shown by the "reporters" of this news "feed," it is apparent that many more people are begining to speak of this. Is there a mission you writers are fufilling? Is there an agenda that you want interjected within this website? Is "The Feed" an editorial? Are we wrong to expect objectivity from all of you? I'm curious. We all have something to say about the goings on in our world, just vent with the rest of us here in the comments, not in the original postings.

Posted by supageckomon - Sunday, October 08, 2006 3:51 AM
and another thing, should game previews and hands-on reviews be considered news items for "The Feed?" Wouldn't they be better served in another section of this site; X-Play perhaps?

This latest version of the on-air G4 network is much more "showy" as in very highly produced, compared to the early days of the channel. Along with the makeover, we have been introduced to witty reportage and intelligent banter from very talented on-air personalities. I don't think that it's translating well on the web. For me, Sarah was able to get away with her bias whenever she gave us "The Feed" on ATOS (the old "new version") because she was, well, cute. (heh, heh) Some reason, you guys aren't able to get me to look past it here.

Posted by spitfirec4 - Sunday, October 08, 2006 6:17 AM
Are you some kind of super genius supage.lol The channel of G4 is not nearly as biased as some of the feed writers. They report the good and bad and dont tend to favor a particular console. How can you when 2 primary contenders havent even released their console for the home market. G4 has changed for the worse. They need to stop tying to be like spike tv and bring back some of the video game shows we came to love. Hell even your most popular video game show x-play dosent even air anymore on primetime, so hardly anyone can see it. U play Star trek nextgeneration way too f#ckin much. Damn

Posted by spitfirec4 - Sunday, October 08, 2006 6:22 AM
It is true though. Games are what count, graphics are irrelevant when compared to the gameplay and the replay value. I have confidence in Sony that they will deliver with the games. After all there library is over 9000 game title, the ps3 is backwards compatable and the launch titles are looking very impressive bitches. Capcom is trying to get DMC4 released this year and that would be pretty awsome, dont forget resistence and motorstorm and other great games. I will admit that it would be pretty sweet to have bor gears of war for ps3. As a matter of fact i wouldnt be surprised if that did happen . Peace bitches

Soul your bluntness isn't my issue, I actually kinda like that about ya. I just believe bluntness doesn't ALWAYS have to eaqual rudeness. See According to specs PS3 IS the hulk of the consoles. Xbox 360 IS the second strongest blue eyed thing. And the Wii, Well the wii will either be Wolverine (not too strong but a real popular threat)Or moira mctaggart (All but completely useless and force fed to the masses) See opinion, check. Rudeness, not so much. Thats all im saying.
