A Sandwich for the Weekend

It's the weekend and you're tired of working. The fridge is nearly empty, but you're in no mood to get in the car and go grocery shopping. What do you do? Give up and call out for some pizza? Starve? No, sir, you will not lay down and succumb to the beast known as hunger. You will stand up to that monster and say "not today." You will emerge triumphant among the desolate wasteland that is your fridge. But how will you do this?

You will make the grilled Peanut Butter/Nutella/Bacon/Banana Sandwich.

Passed down through the generations, this sandwich has saved countless hungry men from ordering yet another boring pizza. Will it get you on a fancy cooking show like Knife Fight? No, it will not. Does that matter? No, it does not. The sandwich is designed to be made easily and provide enough nutrition to carry you on until you can make a trip to the grocery. Here's the ingredients:

  • White bread
  • Peanut butter
  • Nutella
  • 1 banana
  • 2 slices of bacon
  • Butter

Now head on over to The Art of Manliness and learn how to make it.

Treat Yourself to Some Granita

There is no one on this planet that does not enjoy some Coffee Granita. The Italian dessert is simply a joy to both coffee addicts and dessert lovers alike. The semi-frozen delight is loosley related to the ever popular  sorbet and italian ice. However, this treat is much more coarse and has a crystal-like texture that leaves a rough, but splendid taste on the tounge. This coarse texture makes the Granita a unique dessert that you would expect to find on Knife Fight or any other top cooking show. Pair this rough dessert with some coffee flavoring and you have caffeinated heaven. How do you make this delicious ice masterpiece? Esquire has the recipe on their page, but lets take a look at the ingredients before anything else.

  • 2/3 cup of superfine sugar
  • 6 1/4 cups of coffee
  • 1 cup of whipping or heavy creme

And that's it! Now, head over to Esquire to see how you turn this simple list of ingredients into a fantastic dessert.

Goodbye Boring Vacations

So you want to go on a vacation, but you don't want to limit yourself to boring sight-seeing tours? How about a traversing 1.5 miles of zip-lines atop a 2,200 foot mountain summit? That's exactly what you'll get when you take a trip with Ziptours, a specialized vacation that has you traveling across Gunstock Mountain and the surronding forest area. Trust me, this isn't something you'd find on The Getaway TV show.  Ziptours includes a course of five ziplines, which will take you on a breathtaking trip while being suspended 140 feet off the ground. Oh, and you'll be traveling at a average speed of 65 mph. But the fun doesn't stop there. You'll also be able to explore an aerial treetop obstacle course, and leap from mountaintop while fastened to a bungee cord.  Plus, you can enjoy your typical outdoor activites, including mountain biking, camping, hiking, and off-road Segway expeditions.

What if you could talk to a person after they were murdered? That's the concept of this short film,"The Final Moments of Karl Brant," starring actor Paul Reuben. The story follows a young researcher who is brutally murdered while working on a mysterious device that allows him to upload his conscience. The short turns the traditional murder mystery genre on its head when two police officers assigned to his murder end up interviewing the man himself. I won't spoil anything, but you should definitely watch this one until the very end.

A Backyard Vacation

A Glass House Vacation

You don't always have to go on a vacation to escape the busy city life. Why not build your own retreat in the comfort of your backyard? The Bunkie house is the perfect alternative to a "man cave" or guest house and measure at a mere 8.5' wide x 12.5' deep. It's interior can be used as an office, guest house, or a personal vacation home worthy of a Getaway episode. These little houses are truly a minalmalists dream. The small, but not cramped cottages can hold a queen sized Murphy bed, a small dining set with chairs, a series of shelves, and an ethanol fireplace. The only problem? The cottage must be contructed by the Bunkie team and it can take anywhere from 1-2 days. Honestly, it's a small price to pay for your very own personal retreat.  So what are you waiting for? It's time to get out there and build your vacation home.

A Carless Vacation

The bicyle culture has grown exponetially over the past decade. A hobby that began as a simple way to get aroudn town has turned into a vibrant culture of bicycle enthusiasts. So it is of no surprise that a vacation company has come up with a way to cater to those who love traveling on two wheels. Trek Travel is a company that creates customized bike vacations in the 50 states. All of these plans include bookings at boutique hotels, tour guides, and vehicles for luggage transportation. The adventure also continues off-road. A plethora of off-road activites are also bundled in the vacation package, including kayaking, sightseeing, vineyard tours, and more. Now, this is something that I can imagine seeing on an episode of The Getaway. In a world where we spend a majority of our time in a car, why not take a weekend to enjoy the sights from outside a metal box?

Par For The Course

Golf is a boring sport. But that doesn't mean that it can't be a little more exciting when paired with a luxrious vacation. Thankfully, Kalos Golf is here to revive the pastime by offering a 12 -day, all-inclusive tour of New Zeland's most beautiful courses. Not exactly something you would see on a TV show like The Getaway, but we wouldn't be surprised if we saw a celebrity on these greens.

The trip starts on a 44-seat private jet, which offers breathtaking views as you travel above the New Zealand landscape and complimentary drinks. Upon landing you'll be treated to some of the most beautiful courses in the world, including the Kauri Cliffs, which is surrounded by Pacific Ocean hazards at every turn. Or you could sit back on the more relaxed Cape Kidnappers  course and it's perfectly cut greens. Tired? Too bad, because the fun doesn't stop at the golf course. After the tour you will be wisked away to a wine farm and a jet-boat adventure. Pack your clubs.

The Manliest Vacation

AntonioHernandez

Posted July 16, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez

The Manliest Getaway

OK, so it's not exactly a vacation, but the "Man Games" is something that any athlete would consider a relaxing day. Did I say relaxing? Sorry, I meant absolutely brutal and awesome. This isn't something that you'd see featured on a TV show like The Getaway, but that doesn't mean it won't help relieve some of that work-day stress. "The Man Games" is a national competition series composed of 12 challenges that will challenge those who call themselves "hardcore." What kind of challenges? Well, how about a 200 yard sprint through an obstacle course compsoed of ice & fire?

Oh, and that's just the warmup. Other challenges include an all-out paintball war, chasing a pig through a knee-deep mud pool, and being launched through the air via a human slingshot. Yes, I said slingshot.  The pricing is relativley cheap and you're guarnteed to at least do something that you've only dreamt of while watching a Die Hard marathon. So return those plane tickets to Paris, sweetheart. It's time to get out there and take a real vacation.
