There's been unprecedented attention paid to the iPhone 4 and its antenna issue. When held a certain way, it's possible to interrupt the antenna signal and significantly impact the phone's signal. Apple remained mostly silent on the issue during the phone's launch, suggesting users should try holding the phone a different way, but a Consumer Reports review told readers to not purchase an iPhone 4 due to the issue, prompting Apple to hold an unexpected press conference.
If you're feeling a bit of deja vu, that's because the NPD Group has just released sales figures for June and both Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 have topped the sales charts once again. And for once, Nintendo isn't leading the console sales with Wii -- in June, it's Xbox 360.

Sony Online Entertainment is the latest company to join the series of layoffs hitting the games industry. The company confirmed to me this morning they are laying off a total of 35 employees.
Sega's commitment to Kinect will go beyond downloadable Sonic the Hedgehog racers, said Sega of America COO Mike Hayes in an interview with CVG. The publisher is currently working on a more elaborate -- "sophisticated," says Sega -- Kinect game to be released in the next few years.

It’s not a mystery that legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg is a fan of video games, but hearing to what extend the director has interacted with video games in the past, pre-Boom Blox is interesting. Yuji Naka recently granted an interview to NiGHTS Into Dreams fansite nightsintodreams.com and revealed the connection between NiGHTS and Mr. Spielberg.
I like NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (Wii), but I wish they would allow for faster flying, like the original game--and throw out the countdown timer. It's just frustrating.

It’s easy to take pot shots at Activision CEO Bobby Kotick; the guy’s made some colored statements that rightfully earned the ire of video game fans. Fueling the flames today were comments from favored game designer Tim Schafer of Double Fine, who at one point called Kotick a “total prick.” The ensuing comments included a call to virtual arms that included Socrate’sMind demanding a new president be instituted at the Call of Duty publisher.
“Personally I think Activision needs a new President.... Someone who cares about making good games that are creative, fun, great stories, etc..... I think the person who understands this is a gamer not Bobby... At some point here in the future Bobby is going to crash and burn and we all knew it was going to happen...”
Maybe Kotick just needs to pick his words more carefully. What do you think?
There are great CEO/Presidents that you never hear from. This does not diminish their work, they just not a public speakers, no gift. Some one got to brake it to Bobby that he is one of them. He does something right as all of "flaming" people posting all over internet in fact vote with their money and buy Activision product.

The sometimes erratic updating schedule of Microsoft’s classics-oriented Game Room service have made it difficult to keep up with, but the next wave of games, arriving today, have been announced:
This sucks I was excited cause I already have Pac-man and Mrs Pac man as well as frogger and thought they would be able to transfer and yet they still have not as well I hoped to see Donkey Kong and Q-bert and Zaxxon and its mainly atari games and games I dont like. Then they canceled 1 vs 100

When Blizzard announced plans to require participation in the Real ID program, thus exposing users' real-names, in order to continue posting on the Blizzard message boards, many responded in an loud uproar. A number of gamers sent a complaint to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board, who recently sent out a response, updating users on Blizzard's decision to drop the policy. Unfortunately, according to WoW.com, they exposed everyone's e-mail in the process.
I so wanted to be on that e-mail list.... imagine all the e-mail buddies i can have! Get an e-mail that says, "I will be lonely forever unless I send to 1000 people" e-mail... I could have sent that e-mail out! HA With all that aside... I wonder when Blizzard will push people out of their games all together. I am on the fence for Star Craft 2... and I am not sure I want to expose my real life name and email to everyone in the world by playing a game that I doubt I will make it past the...

It seemed like most of Quantic Dream's resources were poured into producing Heavy Rain, and while it would have been natural to assume they're singularly hard at work on something new, there's much better news to report: Quantic Dream told The Examiner it's working on two games.
I'm not sure what it is about the Russian accent, but it makes everyone sound like a cartoon villain (read: Rocky and Bullwinkle) when pushed through the English language. Compared to native Russian -- a deep, brooding, often times dangerous sounding tongue -- it's comical. This weekend, I started playing Metro 2033, a sadly overlooked Ukranian-developed shooter set in a post-apocalyptic Russia overrun by mutated beasts, with English speakers flipped on, naturally. That's the default setting. But then I switched the language to Russian with subtitles -- and everything changed.
I think the localisation team realized we can't really have the experience of a Russian in Russia, 'cause we don't understand Russian. So instead they made a change that they felt would work better for western audiences. Bring the gamers experience of playing a game in a language they don't understand in to the game. The awaited return of the Driver series with Driver: San Francisco will have to wait a bit longer.
In actuality, this holiday season doesn't seem to be too competitive yet. Probably because many great games were released during the first quarter of this year. So Ubisoft needs to come out with a better excuae than what they're saying at the momen; maybe they're just idiots and don't know when a game is going to be ready.

The buzz so far on Call of Duty: Black Ops is surprisingly strong. I didn't get around to playing Call of Duty: World at War, but I won't be missing out on Treyarch's return to the franchise. Following news that Black Ops pre-orders may be outpacing Modern Warfare 2's, a number of readers -- the very people who are helping determine these numbers -- chimed in about their thoughts on Black Ops so far. NetNapoleon wasn't as convinced about the game as some others.
This will be a wait and see for me. After being disappointed by the last couple of Call of Duty's made by Treyarch they will have to prove themselves before I lay down the $60 that could go to another good game.
I for one will be completely passing on this title all together. Everything I have seen for this game has just been a turn off for me. I'll give just a few examples. The E3 demo with the chopper looked like the chopper mission from BF:BC and that got boring after the first play through for me. Next is the use of over the top action sequences, don't get me wrong I love blowing stuff up as much as the next guy, but the over the top bits of MW2 single player ruined it for me. The cramming...

Treyarch's traditionally been perceived as the "B" development team for the Call of Duty franchise, but impressive showings for Call of Duty: Black Ops have suggested their latest could be a coming out party of sorts for the studio, a culmination of their work on the series. Besides industry buzz, it seems to be translating to potential sales, as GameSpot reports a Pacific Crest Securities analyst is currently estimating that Black Ops pre-orders are outpacing those for Modern Warfare 2.
