Despite what you may think, it's no fun to write a bad review. No matter what the outcome may be we all recognize it takes a lot of hard work by a ton of people just to get a game out the door. Adam Sessler's review of Kindgoms of Amalur: Reckoning came out today, and if you've read it you know he was not pleased with the outcome. In this week's Soapbox Adam discusses how difficult it was for him to write a bad review for a game he has such high hopes for.

I get the whole world, story, and combat has to click part. You see it in a game like Bioshock ( though a shooter). Oddly it doesn't take long in a game, even in an RPG, to establish. I felt a click right away in Morrowind, for example.

So, I'll still probably buy the game and play it. It won't take long to see if it clicks or not.

In the past year or so it's become very common for new games to include an "Online Pass" inside the box. This code will unlock certain aspects of the game like multiplayer, co-op levels, or future downloadable content. It's pretty obvious that publishers have done this to encourage gamers to buy new games rather than used ones, but Sessler doesn't think it's the best idea. In this week's Soapbox, Adam explains the flaws he sees in this new business model and why the Online Pass may not be around forever.

Pirated games always has happened always will. Codes, Anti-Piracy measures, online checks, all of them repel a willing and wanting consumer.

Let's say a pirate named... oh... Luffy D. Monkey decides he wants to play some Assassin's Creed. But low and behold he needs an active internet connection, the CD in, he's gotta put in codes. He says, "This pisses me off, I bought the game and they treat me like I stole it." Then low and behold next time he sees an Assassin's Creed title he's...

With the disappointing sales for the Nintendo 3DS some people think handheld gaming is on the way out. Sony disagrees, and are about to release their next handheld console, the PS Vita. Adam Sessler recently got his hands on the Vita and decided to spend this week's Soapbox discussing its high points and low points. Sure the tech is impressive, the graphics are amazing, and the screen is gorgeous, but is that enough anymore?  There's been a lot of talk recently about how movie ticket sales were down last year. What you may not have heard is that video games sales were also down 8% compared to the previous year. While some people may claim this is a sign of the end of console gaming or the movement towards social gaming, The Sess strongly disagrees! In this week's Soapbox, Adam will explain why he thinks sales were down last year and why he's not worried about the future of traditional gaming.

It's Thursday, the best day of the week! Not because it's almost Friday, not because it's Thirsty Thursday at my local bar, but because it's the day we get to see the newest episode of The MMO Report. This week Casey will drop some knowledge about the Firefly MMO that's not as dead as we thought, DC Universe Online's one year anniversary and their 8th content update, and we'll learn how Casey's lineage is being passed on to the next generation in Uncle Casey's Mail Bag! I fear for the future of the human race.

He may look a little different, but in a matter of moments you'll realize he's still the same Sess deep down. On this week's Soapbox Adam discusses Star Wars: The Old Republic and why he thinks it will be a huge success for Bioware, EA, and the MMO genre as a whole. During this end of the year holiday season, we feature a lot of special episodes of our franchises. Many include a rundown of what's happened in the gaming industry over the past year, but we at The MMO Report like to do things a little differently. As we look back at 2011 it's important to remember our mistakes along with our successes, and in this spirit we present to you our Best Bloopers of 2011. This is my favorite episode to edit, and it always leaves me laughing hysterically at my desk. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Happy New Year!

Hey guys, it's almost Christmas! The MMO Report staff are no strangers to the holiday spirit, so as a gift to you we're presenting this early look at a new browser-based MMO. Doctor Who: Worlds in Time is a new casual, puzzle-based MMO from BBC Worldwide based on the popular sci-fi television series, and while it may be cute and kid friendly that doesn't mean they skimped on the fan service. So if you're a fan of the Time Lord or just enjoy classic puzzle games check out our preview of Doctor Who: Worlds in Time.

Morality in gaming is nothing new. We've all played RPG and action games that have different story lines and endings based on how good or evil you play, but some games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim give you moral choices that don't affect the outcome. Such is the topic of this week's Soapbox. Adam ponders if these murky moral choices give a window into the mentality of the player and if the open sandbox allows for gamers to experiment with their dark side.
