Remade (Wii-made?) Versions Of 'Mario Tennis' And 'Pikmin' Heading To Wii
Posted By: Raymond Padilla - Saturday, November 01, 2008 11:36 AM

Siliconera has learned that North American Wii owners will be getting retooled versions of Mario Tennis and Pikmin as part of the Let's Play on Wii series. For those of you that are unfamiliar with Let's Play on Wii, it's a selection of GameCube titles that are being ported to the Wii; they will be available for a budget price and take advantage of the Wii's motion-sensing controls. Other Let's Play on Wii titles, for the Japanese market, include Chibi Robo, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Metroid Prime, and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes

While these releases totally fit into Nintendo's customary strategy of selling us the same game eight times (at least), let's try to keep things positive. Mario Tennis absolutely makes sense as a Let's Play on Wii game. I imagine it will play similarly to Wii Sports' tennis portion. Pikmin should also be easier and potentially more fun with a Wiimote. What GameCube games do you guys want to see on Let's Play on Wii? How would your dream remakes take advantage of the Wii's controls? Leave a comment and let's discuss. I'll kick it off with the first comment.

Resident Evil Remake REMAKE and... Metroid Prime I guess would be all. Sunshine could be fun, but Galaxy got old fast.

Baetan Kietos, that rpg about the bird people, might deserve a second go. I'd still rather have a 4th wii metroid game (or an upgraded box sent since i stoped playing MP2 half way) and a 3rd Pikmin, but what are you going to do?

Wait, who says it has to be from gamecube? Starfox 64 all over again, Independance Day level included! A few more levels and an upgrade in graffics, get that rail shooter back into it's silver age. And a side scroller metroid like the wario world that gor released.

I'm tired of waiting for intendo to create something new that I want to play. Ok, I was tired years ago and that is why I bought an xbox back then and have a 360 today.

My wii is on stand by, but I think it's time to unplug it. I can always turn it on another day.

NOW I see how Reggie can make those "lots of games" statements! Just rehash the games we've already played to boost the library! Wow, what a concept!!!

Nintendo should give these games away to anyone who has previously bought/registered the games.

HOWEVER, if they're going to retool some GameCube games, here are MY recommendations:
Metroid Prime (the controls in 3 were AWESOME!), Beyond Good & Evil (since we're not getting the sequel), Ikaruga, Wind Waker (Yes, I liked this game),...

...hell, just port them all over.

they still are releasing a new pikmin,

im not saying these games are dead, everyone knows that pikmin fans are gonna buy the remade version for the wii, but i guess i cant really say to much until i see how much they price these games at

and as for online of Double Dash, that would impact the sales of Mario Kart Wii, just like the same aspects of the Super Smash bros thing, they wont re-release a game that costs 10-15 dollars with online multiplayer, when a game thats not to much different costs 40 bucks you know?

They should bring back Perfect Dark...seriously wasnt it tha *best??? They dont have to change anytin...just add online multiplayer and i guess aimin with the wiimote...but i guess increase the graphics a bit...either way it was good...or just rip off the game...i just loved the depth of customizin the game...pick a map select the weapons...customize character...select the simulants...aww i loved killin kazesim...and runnin from fistsim...and gettin killed by vengesim cuz i accidently killed him with a proxy mine...lol...and i guess ill say it Perfect Dark Zero was completely shameful...oh yeah and conker's bad fur day...i havent played live and reloaded...
*i couldnt use a certain word but that forbidden word thing is pretty kewl

Sounds nice. Never got around to the first pikmin gam, or the second metroid. just hope nintendo has enough sense to polish them up a bit. I really would like to see nintendo adapt wii controlls on older games like duck hunt, Goldeneye64 ( please don't comment on that one, I know liscense holders would never allow it, its way too good of a money making idea for them to grasp) heck, even mario kart 64. Cant wait for pikmin and the metroid games, though.

@Blacklinkmaster That's a good observation. Keeping brands alive is certainly a reason for games on Let's Play on Wii.

In addition, not everyone played these games on the GameCube and every Wii owner had a GameCube. This is way for Wii owners to experience these games.

Nintendo has a track record of selling games multiple times. A lot of gamers have bought Super Mario Bros. several times on several platforms. I've done it too. Sometimes I'm happy with the purchase and other times I'm wondering why I bought this frickin' game again.

I'm not trying to be a Nintendo apologist -- just trying to help people understand.

resident evil 4! ha!
seriously how bout some rpg love, i'm talking bout baten kaitos. or an enhanced port of eternal darkness. but seeing how this is N's idea, i want windwaker.

Posted by Blacklinkmaster - Sunday, November 02, 2008 8:37 AM
Well the reason they're doing this is to help out some games. Like Pikmin for example. I absolutely love that game but it isn't very well-known. They're already working on Pikmin 3 and by re-releasing Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 they can expand the Pikmin fanbase a little more and ensure better Pikmin 3 sales and as a result they will prioritize the making of a new one so we won't have to wait 5 years for the next game.

I want to see the Wind Waker, one of my favorite games. But what I really want to see is a Battlefield game for the Wii.

Mario Kart: Double Dash with online multiplayer would be sweet.

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH nyahhhhh!

Nintendo.. why do you keep getting worse? where is the love?

ya know.. it doesn't help when you OWN these games they are releasing, and you just put in the gamecube disk.. and play it..

i mean adding wii motion controls is fun and all, but.. its not that big of a difference..

watch when these games come out, they will be priced just high enough to where you can go to a used game bin, and get the same game with gamecube controls for cheaper :D

why spend 2-5 dollars more just to use a different control scheme? its still going to be the same game..

What about F Zero, or Star Fox? Falcon Dud

Posted by mybum - Saturday, November 01, 2008 9:33 PM
wow r u serious nintendo....
man seriously, game cube games are the best games on wii like zelda tw and now this.

welll ihope that they put star fox adventure onwii cuz i havent played that game and i want to try it. and metroid prime 1 and 2 is actually great on wii becaue then we dont have to use the awesful single stick aiming and ppl will actually understand the great story.

Oh, and the 1st ever SSX was awesome. No game would compare to it's addictiveness at that time for me. Just trying to master those tricks and combos + objectives...

Posted by Markntosh - Saturday, November 01, 2008 9:11 PM
I know it's not ever possible... or related to the conversation... but I'd like to see a SUPER SMASH BROTHERS: CONSOLE WARS!!!

In it, Mario represents Nintendo, Master Chief represents Microsoft, Hayle, sackboy, or maybe solid snake represents Sony, and Gordon Freeman represensts the PC. Plus it being on all 4 consoles with online in-between all of them?

Now wouldn't that be awesome? I'd love to kick Mario's @$$ as Gordon Freeman or Solid Snake...

Posted by MaxDragon7 - Saturday, November 01, 2008 9:10 PM
Paper Mario: TTYD was the bomb! I would have killed someone if I didn't get my hands on it! Oh and Mario Party 5 is the last Mario Party I got (Imo, I say what's the point to all those Mario Partys? 1-5 were awesome.) and I say it was fun!

Posted by kid_vic - Saturday, November 01, 2008 7:42 PM
no joke, windwaker sounds great, so does soul calibur 2, but I aid luv to see ssx on tour, the one with the nintendo characters, with the balance board to use like skate it, an like da next ssx game should also be... yeaaaa...

I'm just excited to get Metroid Prime 1 and 2 with Wii controls. The control scheme on MP3 was awesome.

And some kind of Metroid Prime Trilogy box set would be kinda awesome.

@GoldLion86

dude, I hate to burst your bubble, but that probably won't happen. If Super Smash bros 64 was released on the virtual console, it would hurt the sales of Brawl. And Nintendo wouldn't want its best game to lose sales.

Posted by n1tr0 - Saturday, November 01, 2008 3:56 PM
@ brokeheart
YES YES YES YES YES YES!!! and windwaker would be cool too

Posted by brokeheart - Saturday, November 01, 2008 3:51 PM
Hands down: Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
I am waiting a a mgs game to get on the wii. Why not one that was made for a nintendo system. If they could just fix the camera I would buy it.

"Why remake the games when you can just as easily make a new version like Pikmin 3 instead of the old Pikmin or Pikmin 2 game with control for the wii mote"

That would be an excellent question, if only it had a question mark and made sense.

Porting is done for anything because porting is easier than making a new game, a lot easier.

ENOUGH!

Posted by Manifest37 - Saturday, November 01, 2008 2:33 PM
No, Nintendo!
When we requested more Wii games, we didn't mean gamecube ports!!!!
This is worse than PS2 ports.

Sweet ignorance there deathsdelivery. Glad to see you call out all the idiots out there without using the right "there." Really proves your own point, doesn't it?

Anyway, Windwaker is a total must have, so long as they don't make me waggle to attack and let me press A to do it. But the whole point-and-shoot with the hookshots was great in Twilight. I would also like to see Mario Kart: Double Dash redone with maybe an online component and tilt controls. Perhaps even Mario Sunshine with a point-n-spray mechanic.

Posted by deathsdelivery - Saturday, November 01, 2008 2:00 PM
Let the LAME 5HIT from Nintendo Beg..um, wait.. continue!!...until MadWorld, NMH sequel, and Conduit! But seriously Nintendo sucks donkey balls regardless of sales, just means theirs more idiots out there.

Posted by drunken0taku - Saturday, November 01, 2008 1:08 PM
windwaker...duh!

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door and Mario Party 5.

Posted by attack_of_the_punk - Saturday, November 01, 2008 12:47 PM
I would love to see Ikaruga for Wii where you could flip colors by tilting the Wii-mote to the left or right. Also Super Mario Sunshine would be fun with the Wii-mote maybe just a spin off type mini game. I agree soul calibur would be great too.

Posted by r_pad - Saturday, November 01, 2008 12:07 PM
It's not likely, but my wish would be for a remade version of Soul Calibur for GameCube. Playing as Link while wildly swinging around a Wiimote sounds pretty fun to me. Maybe Namco and Nintendo, who have collaborated several times in the past, can make it happen. Get on it guys!
