DSi Download Games Revealed
Posted By: Raymond Padilla - Friday, October 31, 2008 4:15 PM

Wired has a report on the initial batch of DSi Ware games. These are downloadable titles that can be played on the new Nintendo DSi handheld gaming system. Wired's Chris Kohler was most impressed with the new Made in Wario game. He said:

"The most interesting of the bunch is Utsusu! Made In Wario, the latest in the Wario Ware series of micro-game collections. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata explains that you'll use the Nintendo DSi's built-in camera to play it, kind of like an EyeToy game -- your silhouette is inserted into the mini-games, and you have to play it with your face and hands. You'll actually set the DSi on a tabletop to do this."

While the concept of this game sounds innovative and fun, there's no way you can play Utsusu! Made in Wario without looking like a complete tool...which means we'll all enjoy making our friends play it. In other Wario/DSi news, it was revealed that a bunch of old Wario Ware micros will be available through DSi Ware. Kohler said:
"Nintendo will produce even smaller downloadable DSi games -- some of the mini-games featured in the first Wario Ware game for Game Boy Advance will be released as $2 downloads on DSi Ware."

This isn't nearly as impressive. In fact, it sounds like a damn rip off. One of my colleagues was under the impression that you get one micro-game for $2. I can't believe that's true; that's just too ridiculous. Even if you get a batch of three, it's still a questionable deal for $2. These are micro-games! While their market is quite different from the North American one, I can't see many Japanese consumers dropping yen for these. It'll be interesting to see how they perform.

A lot of the comments I've been reading are pretty negative or indifferent on the DSi. Does the initial batch of DSi games change your opinion? For the better or for the worse? Playing games with your face -- stupid or genius?!? Leave a comment and let me know!

@cherisoca Nintendo is not slow at all. There's no rush to bring the DSi to Europe and North America, simply because DS sales are still going strong.

Nintendo is sooo sloooow to get out new hardware. I will wait for a new DS that offers touch control on both screens. If I were creating games, I would want to use both screens to give players two camera views and two playing fields. I'll probably be in a home by the time that console gets made.

I actually cant wait for this thing to come out, I saw the trailer for the Kingdome Hearts game that is coming out for it and it looks great. Wonder if more interesting dowloadable games will come out for it. From what I hear about it, it has a 3 megapixel camera( didn't Know exacly what mega pixels where, so I looked it up on wiki),and according to wiki the screen has to have a 640x480 resotulion, most likely per screen. This in my interpretation means both screens are capable of looking similar to(but probobly not as clear as) the Wii's graphics. just hope the games can keep up with that, especially the downloadables.

umm... I love how so many people hate on Nintendo for the way they "left out the hard core". The hard cord left behind Nintendo in the Game Cube days. Fairs fair.

DSi in my view is a blah idea. There really is no point to it except down loading games which to me is an okay thing I guess, but to redue a system where everyone and their mother has one is just lacking in imagination. They could have rocked out with down load content in a new game boy format, but oh wells let's see how long it goes.

Lets just wait and see.

Nitendo decided to go the path of more money, but more hate. They wanted the much larger casual gamer market when they thought of the Wii, but decided to abandon the legions of hardcore gaming fans that bought all of their Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Donkey Kong, and such games so that they wouldn't become like Atari and switch to only making games. the only hardcore game on the Wii is Zelda: Twilight Princess (and Metroid, though it's no where near as hard or challenging as the first 2). Nitendo has left its fans for dead, enough said. And once people get tired of buying the massive amounts of softwear for the wii remote to paly games, they'll try to go back to their long loyal fans. I hope their fans return the favor of leaving them for dead.

Bring back the Gameboy!
It would be better than just keep redisigning the DS.we wan't a disc based Gameboy with atleast Gamcube graphics or a bit better.Also it should be a MMD (Multi Media Device).They can call the Gameboy Evolution or Revolution.Come on Nintendo scrap the DSi for the U.S and give us hardcore fans what we wan't and trust us you'll stay on top.

@mckin
very true words. but i what i was gettin at was more a wish than a proposal. i really wanna
see a new gameboy. and i think if they did, it would have to be in a different way the ds operates. nintendo states that wii and ds are not true successors to thier gamecube and gameboy advance sps, but seperate pillars or what have you. nintendo is about games and fun.
and i'm all for it

@badass
This is not what nintendo is about. They arn't about the 500$ consoles. They want cheap consoles that'll sell the a wider demographic and that's genious. They don't care about the minority of 16-24 year olds. If they can get a monopoly on very old and very young then that's what they'll do. They buy low and sell high and alot 35 million that's insane. Even if people get bored of them after 6 weeks that doesn't change that fact Nintendo has swimming pools full of money which they hier Usain bolt to race Michael Phelps to swim or run across.
