Retailers Out Of Space For Fake Instruments
Posted By: John Manalang - Wednesday, October 22, 2008 1:10 PM

Although retailers appreciate the amount of business music games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band bring in, they present logistical problems when dealing with hundreds of thousands of units.

According to reports, retailers have been lashing out against instrument peripherals for consoles due to the amount of space they take up on their shelves. Less shelf space means less product and less product means less revenue.

One company, XS Games is taking a different approach. They developed a small peripheral that attaches to the Wiimote for their Wii version of their new music game, PopStar Guitar. The PS2 version will ship as software only, but will be compatible with all existing PS2 guitar peripherals. The game is expected to release later this month.

Wal-Mart was reportedly pleased at this approach as it means they can fit more product onto the shelves during the busy shopping season leading up to the Holidays. We think this only further emphasizes the need for full compatibility between instruments.

'Call Of Duty' Departing Word War II?
Posted By: John Manalang - Monday, October 20, 2008 1:03 PM

Treyarch producer Noah Heller touched on the subject that their upcoming FPS title Call of Duty: World At War may be the last game that will support a World War II setting. With the exception of Infinity Ward's massive hit Modern Warfare the Call of Duty game series have always faced-off against the Nazi regime.

In Heller's interview with Official Xbox Magazine, he said:

"Since World at War was in development for two years, it was still in development when Modern Warfare... well, it hadn't even come out yet," Heller explains. "So our path was a little bit set at that point but we also knew that we wanted to show the end of the war."

Modern Warfare's success was based on its gameplay mechanics and amazing multiplayer options, so WWII or not, as long as the title plays great, we have no complaints. Call of Duty: World At War will be out this November 11 for the PC, PS3, PS2, 360, Nintendo Wii and DS platforms.
