After a few months, see who's linking to your site by going to AltaVista and entering "link:(your website address)." For example, for my site I would enter

link:http://www.davidspark.com

This will return a list of sites that link to yours. Compare that with your journal of promotion. Many sites will not appear because of AltaVista's inability to index every single page on the Internet, or because some sites simply didn't add you. For those sites that don't appear, go check each one manually. If they didn't add you, ask them why not. They may have just not gotten around to it.
