The Epson Stylus CX6400 combines printing and scanning prowess. The hefty-yet-sleek MFP prints at 5740x1440 optimized resolution and scans at 1200x2400 (48-bit). It also has a built-in media reader for PC-less printing (by way of a scan-able proof sheet), a built-in USB 2.0 cable, and a straightforward control panel with convenient green LEDs that light up, making menu selections intuitive. Those looking for a built-in fax should look elsewhere.

Featuring Epson's long-lasting (and anti-smudge) pigment-based Durabrite ink and borderless prints up to letter size, plus Epson's Easy Photo Fix scanning software, the CX6400 includes all the perks of owning a separate Epson scanner and photo printer. In addition, the MFP can scan straight to a media card.

Photo print quality impressed us despite the use of four-color ink. Printing text takes no time, with a 10-page test print in best mode coming in at 4:55 and in draft mode at an awesome 1:05. The CX6400 makes a great copier, too, with 10 color pages coming in at a phenomenal 6:59.

Bottom line: At $200 the CX6400 is a bit pricey for an MFP without a built-in fax. Still, solid photo quality and fast print and scan times make the CX6400 a worthy choice.
