There is a ton of free software and websites that offer free meta tag generators. You don't need to know any HTML code to create your own meta tag. The two meta tag generators that I like best are WebPromote's Meta Tag Builder and the one at the Association of Christian Web Authors. Both will ask you to enter a site description and a list of keywords, separated by commas, that describe your site's content.

Once you've generated your meta tags, you'll have to insert the code within the header tags of your homepage. If you're confused by HTML code and not sure where to enter the generated code, Webpromote's Meta Tag Builder will email you a revised version of your homepage with your meta tag already inserted in the appropriate place. All you have to do is copy all the code into a text editor and save it as your new homepage.
