If Plug-n-Play isn't successful, you do have another option for installing a printer.

  1. Single-click the Start menu, mouse over Settings, and then single-click Printers.
  2. When the printers dialog box appears, double-click the Add Printer icon to launch the wizard.
  3. Click the Next button on the wizard.
  4. Choose Local Printer and then select the Next button.
  5. Wait for the wizard to build a driver database list.
  6. Select the manufacturer of your printer from the list.
  7. Select the correct printer model.
  8. Click the Next button on the wizard.
  9. Choose the correct printer port. By default it should be LPT1. The default setting is the one you want.
  10. Click the Next button on the wizard.
  11. Fill in a name for your new printer. If you'd like the printer to be your default printer mark the Yes box.
  12. Click the Next button on the wizard.
  13. If you'd like to print a test page, leave the next field alone and press the Next button.
  14. At this time you'll be prompted to insert your Windows disk before going any further. Do this now.
  15. Press OK to complete the driver installation.

If everything goes OK, you should have a nice test page printed on your new printer. Continue reading, because there's one last step to take before your new printer is fully ready to go.
