After an early flurry of hype, the Gnutella project has not delivered on its promise to become the "next Napster" that we've all been waiting for. But out of the Gnutella source code, programmers developed Newtella.

Newtella works fairly well. It's easy to install, and offers immediate connection to fellow users. However, during our testing, few peers offered cable access, and 50 connections crashed the computer. Nonetheless, Newtella is a good place to start file sharing.
