Running an auction online can be big business... if you're eBay. Too bad you're not. Continuing with my educated guesses I'm going to safely say you're not Amazon or Yahoo! either. After the online auction's holy trinity, the competition for auction dollars drops significantly. Why aren't there more successful online auctions? Can't sell your products if there's nobody to bid.

So if you're a fourth-world online auction site why even think of continuing? Because an online auction is big business and there's no reason you should let those three big guys bully you into not joining their game. You don't need a big portion of their business to score big. There's plenty of room for more players.
