If you're like a lot of people who travel and stay connected to their PCs, you're familiar with the problems of trying to travel light. You need to carry PC cards, software disks, cables, and even portable storage units (among other things). A new offering from Expertcity may relieve your strained back. GoToMyPC is a PC remote-control service that you access through a browser at gotomypc.com.

Previously, only software such as PCAnywhere or LapLink allowed you to connect to a remote PC. Although PCAnywhere works for many users, it has some logistical problems. If you access your PC from different computers, you would have to install the software on each of those computers.

Another option for those who want to connect remotely to a network is VPN. VPN uses what's called a tunneling protocol to connect to a private network via a public network such as the Internet. Like remote-control software, this solution is not always feasible. Your IT department at work has to support it. Configuring your network settings can get messy, particularly if you have your own network settings with your ISP. Besides, you cannot access your desktop with a VPN.
